Building a WebDAV capable product: how?

At work, we are seriously considering using Zope. For the Web front-end, we are already sold. However, for our use, we will heavily rely on its WebDAV services. We'll need to do some special tricks, so that legacy systems and Zope interoperate nicely. As a test case, I wanted to see what it takes to create a special product, that appears as a directory in webdav, offering some dummy objects. I want to do this programmatically, not using ZClasses, nor using the Zope management interface. For my test case, I really just want to (ab)use Zope's WebDAV server functionality. Using the "A minimal product HOWTO", and inheriting from webdav.Collection a webdav directory appeared quickly. However, I am a bit stuck at figuring out how to get some dummy objects in there. Modifying the "self._objects" doesn't seem to help, and any documentation on the ObjectManager, and how it relates to FTPList/WebDAV is rather sparse. What I have so far is appended below. COPY/PASTE problem

Hello, I would like to copy and paste file in my site. I created "copy button" with this code : <dtml-let objCopy="_.getattr(PARENTS[0], idChk)"> <dtml-call expr="objCopy.manage_copyObjects([idChk])"> </dtml-let> this code don't make an error, but I'm not sure that's work! I suppose that "manage_copyObjects()" reference the file in the clipboard, but how can I use the function "paste", maybe like that but it doesn't work ... <dtml-let objPaste="_.getattr(PARENTS[0],)"> <dtml-call "objPaste.manage_pasteObjects()"> </dtml-let> how can I view the content of its clipboard ? thanks, Johan.

ZTables and/or Catalog plugable brains?

(resent to here from zope(a)zope.org due to complete lack of resoonse. Perhaps there should be three levels of mailing list. zope-use, zope-app-dev, zope-dev or something) I'm in the process of of write a zope product that will deal with a lot numerical data (records with a few ids and a few float values). Rightly or wrongly (comments welcome) I've decided to do this inside the ZODB rather than rely on a relation database. This is largely because this data will - not be high-write - I want to do processing on all this of this data on multiple servers - and I am presuming that at some point in the not too distant future zope will let me replicate this data very easily to make it even more highly available. I tried using ZClasses but it seems to run slow and take up space. Instead I'm using Catalog (without ZCatalog) to contain the data. I'm presuming this will be quite efficient (comments welcome). Now to my question, How do Catalog plugable brains work? I've looked but can't see what the brain class has to look like to work. My first attempts don't seem to work. The classes are created but don't contain the data. Is the record data passed into the constructor? Also in my searches I came across lots of references to something called ZTables. This seems to be a Catalog with a UI that is about lots of tabular information (rather than a ZCatalog which is specialized to replicating and indexing existing objects). Is this dead? If not where is it? If so, why? It seems like a really good idea to me. It seems to be there are times when objects (esp ZClasses) are too heavy? Anyone with comments about how ZPatterns fits into all of this would also be welcome.

Database Authentication Problem

Hi, a have amysterious problem with my database-adapters. The problem is that sometimes all my database-adapters couldn't connect to my database. after a zope-restart everything works fine. I use Zope-2.2.5 Immunix Redhat 6.2 PostgreSQL 7.1.3 ZopeDA's are ZPygreSQL and ZPsycopg. If the error happens then all Database-connections are closed. No error in the stupid-log. The postgres log say's - Password authentication failed for user 'foo' - for every ZopeDA. Could anyone help me ? Is there a bug which is fixed in a later version of Zope ? thanks as

file descriptors on Solaris

I am running into a problem where Zope is trying to open too many file descriptors (256) in order to process a POST. I'm not sure how to phrase this question, but my reading has suggested that this limit may be set by the FILE struct in /usr/incldue/stdio.h. Does anyone know if this is used in Python/Zope? My first impression was that this problem would be easy to solve -- just up the number of FD's, but now, I'm not so sure. Any suggestions? Would it be smart to include the python header files in the zope binary distributions? False alarm for Python2.2a4. It does work It seems I was either hallucinating or had screwed something up. After discussions with Guido, after which I understood a lot better what was supposed to be happening and why, I started over, and this time it worked. With the updates for OS 10.1 in Python 2.2a4, all I had to do to make both Python and Zope was: cd Python2.2a4 configure --with-suffix=.exe make sudo make install cd Zope python wo_pcgi.py That's all. Just that one configure flag, and no global variables set. Very, very nice. What a delight to have a just released MacOS treated with respect by multi-platform software! By the way, Guido said that the Makefile.pre.in mechanism installed in python2.2/lib/config is for a deprecated third-party build mechanism, replaced by distutils. He suggests that Zope should maybeswitch to distutils. -- --- Mitchell
