Proposal: Backporting some Python 2.5/2.6 fixes

Hi all, I would like to propose backporting some of the fixes needed for Python 2.5 and 2.6 all the way down to Zope 2.10. The fixes that would be backported would only be those that deal with syntax changes (eg: 'with' and 'as' keyword being used as variables, relative imports) and some C-level changes, to Acquisition and zope.app.container if I recall. I would *not* backport changes to RestrictedPython because those are actually features (support for newer versions of Python) as opposed to the other changes, which are just 'bugfixes' IMHO. ZCatalog caching with memcached

Hi all The past few weeks I've been optimizing a busy Plone site and so collective.catalogcache was born. It uses memcached as a distributed ZCatalog cache. It is currently in production and seems to be holding just fine. The site went from being unusable to serving quite a bit of data. I'll modify it in future to not be too tied to just memcached, but that's still some way off. BTW, if you do not have memcached available the catalog functions as usual. It's only been tested for Zope 2.9.6 - 2.10.6. The repo is at http://dev.plone.org/collective/browser/collective.catalogcache. The URL may contain the word Plone but it's all Zope :) The readme contains more info and instructions. The product is a monkey patch to Catalog.py. I'd love some feedback and suggestions. Hedley

zc.relationship 1.0.2 typo bug

I found a typo bug in zc.relationship 1.0.2 (pypi and svn tag 1.02). zope.sqlalchemy: Decoupling Zope3 and SQLAlchemy commit - how? Should I?

Hi, In one of my Zope3 projects, I use lovely.remotetask to run specific tasks in background. These tasks do lengthy database operations via zope.sqlalchemy. Currently, lovely.remotetask seems to do a Zope3 commit() at the end of the task, which also does the SQLAlchemy commit. However, some tasks consist of a loop over self-contained operations, therefore it would be handy to commit after each such operation. This way, if one of the operations fail (e.g. due to some database error, such as locking, refrential integrity violation etc.), not the whole task is rolled back but only one operation. Moreover, the probability of database locks is reduced. But, how would I do that? First of all, I'd have to catch all database error, so that lovely.remotetask does not do a rollback on its own (which errors would that be?). Then I'd have to somehow commit - should I simply do a Zope3 commit? Or should I somehow do a database commit via zope.sqlalchemy?
