Hi, I plan to create a branch for Zope 2.10 after 2.10beta 2 or short before the 2.10 final release. This means that the Zope trunk should only be used for bugfixes *only* until the branch is cut. So no new development and feature should happen on the trunk until then..Use your own branch until the trunk is open for new stuff to appear in Zope 2.11. Thanks, Andreas

Five release fest: Five 1.2.5, 1.3.6, 1.4 and 1.5c released!

The Five team is happy to announce the release of two Five bugfix releases, 1.2.5 and 1.3.6, a Five 1.4 final release and another Five 1.5c beta release today. What is Five ------------ Five is a Zope 2 product that allows you to integrate Zope 3 technologies into Zope 2, today. Among others, it allows you to use Zope 3 interfaces, ZCML-based configuration, adapters, browser pages (including skins, layers, and resources), automated add and edit forms based on schemas, object events, as well as Zope 3-style i18n message catalogs. We've tried to keep the Five experience as close to Zope 3 as possible, so this means that what you learn while using Five should also be applicable to Zope 3, and viceversa. More information about Five can be found on our website, http://codespeak.net/z3/five/. About Five 1.4 and 1.5 ---------------------- Five 1.4 and 1.5 are feature releases. They are basically equivalent except that Five 1.4 works with Zope 2.9/3.2 (only) and 1.5 works with Zope 2.10/3.3 (only). Five 1.5 will be included in Zope 2.10. Most important features are: * Added viewlet and content provider support. A big thanks to Alec Mitchell and his helpers at the Archipelago sprint for making this possible. * Add zope.formlib support. Please see ``doc/formlib.txt`` for more information. A big thanks to Jan-Wijbrand Kolman for this. * Port zope.testbrowser to Zope 2. You can now use Products.Five.testbrowser.Browser in functional tests. etc/site.zcml in zope 2.10's skel?

Hi all, Ever since I've been developing z3-based projects on zope 2.8+ I've been copying Five's skel/package-includes and skel/site.zcml to my $INSTANCE_HOME/etc so I can use zcml slugs. Now that zope2 is gaining more and more zope3 support I think its time we added these items to zope 2.10's instance skel directory so each new zope 2.10 instance that is created has those items. Some reasons for doing this are: - Removes one more step for getting going with zope3 development on zope2 - Zope 3 developers wanting to port their apps to CMF/Plone don't have to figure out why their zcml slugs aren't working when they just copy them into etc/package-includes (since the instance has no site.zcml) - more consistent with zope3 instances What do you all think? - Rocky -- Rocky Burt ServerZen Software -- http://www.serverzen.com News About The Server (blog) -- http://www.serverzen.net

zope.xmlpickle

Hi all, I have been trying out ``zope.xmlpickle`` as a alternative to XMLExportImport in Zope2. Seems to do the job just fine. Your template uses 'here', which is and alias for the 'context' binding, i.e. the object through which the template was acquired. That object has permission settings which prevent anonymous access *to the object*, which makes its use in a path expression impossible, even though the 'absolute_url' method of that object *would* be accessible by anonymous. Zope 2.8.7 release with ZODB 3.4.3?

Hi all, there is some demand in the community for 2.8.7. No problem at all. >From what I've heard several ZODB bugs were fixed lately since the 3.4.2 release. I suggest to tag the current ZODB 3.4 branch as internal 3.4.3 release (I won't take over any responsibility for an official ZODB 3.4.3 release) and release Zope as soon as possible using ZODB 3.4.3. Any objections? Andreas

Thread Initialization Hook

We are having issues with code for initializing COM for threading leaking into several different projects. The issue is that if you want to use COM inside Zope you have to call pythoncom.CoInitializeEx, hopefully as the very first thing after a thread gets created. Mark Hammond suggested that we add the call to this at the point threads get created in Zope. I thought that the non-intrusive way of doing this would be to have some sort of 'thread initialization hook' that gets called as soon as a thread gets created to service a request.
