New-style classes and ClassSecurityInfo, fixed already?

http://zope.org/Collectors/Zope/1055 Is a bug report I filed a while ago for a fairly trivial breakage of the ClassSecurityInfo class due to the use of assignment to the class dictionary during the apply method. I'm wondering, is this fixed now on CVS head? I've been using a work-around module sub-class for Zope 2.7 work w/ new-style classes, but I can't imagine that's something that would be wanted as a solution. The ClassSecurityInfo.apply method is changed to use setattr instead of dict['x'] = y. The InitializeClass function also needs to have the same transformation applied to it. If desired I can pull the CVS tree and produce a diff if the problem isn't already solved. Have fun, Mike _______________________________________ Mike C. FileStorage instance has no attribute '_serial'

I'm not sure whether the collector issue 1164 I posted is simply a missing configuration step on my part. At any rate, I'm still unable to start the current checkout of Zope HEAD. The only edit I make to /var/zope/etc/zope.conf is 'effective-user zuser', and the problem below also occurs if I then bin/runzope as root. Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something, or is this a bug? Thanks. Weird traceback on zopectl start (2.7b3, Python 2.3.2)

Got this traceback (below) on Zope 2.7b3 using Debian Python 2.3.2 running under Debian Sarge. Zope starts fine using bin/runzope, and even starts fine with zopectl - it just displays this traceback. We are used to thyinking about a standard look and feel for pages. The standard "page" macro is used to implement this standard look and feel. Unfortunately, there are a number of different kinds of pages. For example, some pages are like dialogs. For such pages, it doesn't make sense do display some page elements. We had created two page macros, "page" and "dialog". These macros were very similar and had overlapping contents. The folks working on these macros wanted to have a single macro and a variable to be used by the macro to disable some page elements depending on how the page was being used. So far so good. There is a notion that the page usage might be a configuration option. The thought is that the same template might be used for both "view" pages and "dialog" pages. I think that this is rather questionable. When someone designes a page, they probably know, or should know, how it is going to be used. To take things further, it was thought that all of the pages referenced by a manu should have the same usage and that the usage for a template should be *implied* by the menu that contains the menu item that references the page used by the template. I understand the motivation for this, but it is really problematic, for two reasons: 1. It is very implicit (automatic;) 2. The menu system just wasn't designed to support this sort of thing. The menu system is really only responsible for navigation. It is not responsible for implementation of referenced pages. RestrictedPython "globalization" change

Evan, I was just looking with Shane at the code you added in November to address http://collector.zope.org/Zope/445 . It seems to me that this bit of majyk is just confusing, and makes PythonScripts even less like "normal" Python functions; the actual submitter could easily fix his script by adding 'global context' at the top. Did you have a deeper reason behind the change than the collector issue? If not, would you mind if we reverted, and updated the issue? Unable to find Database adapter for MySQL

Hi folks, I am using Zope 2.6.2 on windows platform. I am new to this ZOPE concept. I wanted to use the MySQL 4.0.13 also installed on windows. What i thought was if i am able to write python script to access the databse then easly i can make Zope to run that script. I downloaded the database adapter for the python ( i installed it seperately) and started playing with it and finally succeded in accessing the databse. But when i tried the same script in zope it gave an error because zope is using its own python application for which i am not able to add the datbase adapter. Is there any other way? Today, I incorporated our Zope extensions into Zope 2.7 and had to determine how I can provide the necessary configuration through ZConfig. I feel the configuration process is not yet as modular as it should be? Let's explain what extensions I have: 1. an alternate "Transience" implementation for Zope sessions 2. a new log handler "rotated_logfile" (which performs automatic daily rotation with log files named "prefix.date") 3. a common piece of configuration used for communication between Zope and a "checkZope" process (which supervises that Zope responds sufficiently fast) I solved 1 and 2 by rudely modifying Zope sources ("zLOG/component.xml" and associated "handlers", "Zope/Startup/zopeschema.xml" and associated "handlers"). I do not yet have a solution for 3 but I probably will give the "checkZope" process the complete Zope schema and configuration file. Almost surely, it would not have been necessary to modify the "zLOG" configuration to get a "rotated_logfile" because components and sectiontypes provide enough modularity. However, schemas and configuration files seem not to be modular. I would like to compose schemas and configuration files from components: e.g. combine the standard Zope schema and a small schema for our extensions to form the schema used by the extended Zope, combine the configuration file from long living Zope settings (maintained in CVS), instance specific Zope settings (locally maintained) and configuration fragments used by Zope and other components (e.g. the "checkZope" process). I think, a general "include" function for schemas (including not only types but complete schemas) and configuration files could provide this kind of modularity. -- Dieter

more persistent mapping misery

Hi folks, On the HEAD recently, a bunch of changes were made to the Persistence package. Notably, the Persistence.PersistentMapping module was removed in favor of a Persistence.mapping module. Unfortunately, there are instance pickles lying around in any CMF instance created prior to the changes (DiscussionItem's _container attribute is the one I found) which explicitly refer to Persistence.PersistentMapping.PersistentMapping. This name can no longer be resolved to a class. This breaks b/w compatibility. I "fixed" the issue by adding the following to the Persistence package's __init__.py: sys.modules['Persistence.PersistentMapping'] = sys.modules['Persistence.mapping'] That seems really ugly, though. Is there a better way to fix it? - C
