hi, i was trying to use medusa's monitor_client.py but failed because my access file used encrypted passwords for the superuser. i switched to CLEARTEXT passwords, restarted the zserver and it worked. how to install a method hook

Hello, here is the 'problem': I want to write support for french dates and various other stuff in my zope installation. Until now, i've always patched zope, but it proves to be a pain to patch my installation each time a release is out. for now, I want to write a product that 'replace' some common objects by a my custom objects. For example, I derived DateTime to provide french date display and input. I would like to 'replace' (in term of acquisition) the toplevel Application.ZopeTime with my own ZopeTime (instance of DateTimeFr) For now, I have written a custon Folder which has a ZopeTime method, returning an instance of DateTimeFr All object under such a folder get the new ZopeTime thanks to acquisition. But I would like to replace ZopeTime for the toplevel folder too. <---------- the actual question ------------> could I do this with the legacy methods of context.RegisterClass ? If I install a product that register ZopeTime legacy methods, will it 'replace' the toplevel ZopeTime? I read the source, but it unclear to me if it will work that way If it work that way, I could do a Locale_fr product which replace the locale sensitive objects with custom ones. I have put together a simple set of methods that allow cooledit to open, create, and save DTML Methods and Documents in Zope using Fredrik Lundh's xmlrpclib module (I had to patch the module to support HTTP Basic auth, the patched version is included). The global.py module that defines the zope methods is attached also. I'm getting the impression, from reading through the coolpython.c file, that much of cooledit's methods can be wrapped, possibly allowing more high level control to python methods. One example where this would help with my little project, for example, is saving and opening remote documents. Currently, I can't 'name' the editor window because it expects the name to be a file path. Zope's Transaction manager

Hello Zopistas. I want to register an object with the transaction manager. I have inherited from TM.py and overloaded tpc_finish and tpc_begin and it does not seem to work. They are never called. I have even tried registering the object with bobo_before, which I assume it is called before anything else. Does anyone have Tips/HowTo on how to make objects participate in Zope's transaction? After-all-Anthony-was-right Pavlos

GUF/user authentication scalability

Hello, I was thinking about how to do an abstracted authorization component and WOW! Here's GUF! This is really great! I ran into a bit of a snag, though. It's not actually a problem with GUF (it's not really a problem at all for most ;), it just brought it out. It also provided a way to maybe fix it without bothering anything else. I have a site that I'm trying to set up that needs to authenticate some 2,600+ users from a database. When I first tried out GUF, I found it horribly slow. After poking around for a while, I found that the cause of this was the calls to getUserNames from getUsers and getUser which are called by BasicUserFolder.validate. Basically, what happens is for every validation call, my userList query is called and a list of 2,600+ items is created and searched for a user. So I added a hook called userName to call instead of getUserNames. It works like the other hook methods and returns the user name if it checks out. That speeded things up when logged in. When there is no authorization information, a list of 2,600+ user objects gets created in order to search for domain information. I have to admit that I don't understand the domain checking bit. It's really slow. I don't use domains so I copied BasicUserFolder.validate over to GenericUserFolder and erased that part. *cringe* There should be some way to fix it to make it work. Major speed improvement, though. Another thing--since the authorization has been abstracted out, the call to userName for web authentication doesn't seem necessary. The userAuthorize can be passed a dummy user object and accept or reject the username and password from there. One less SQL call for me. This is getting too long. Here's a diff against GenericUserFolder.py from version 1.0.4. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't try this on a production server! Domains and who knows what else are broken. DTML Multiplication

Hey Everyone: I'm having trouble doing some simple multiplication in DTML, specifically: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('value', unitPrice[_['sequence-index']])"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('qty', quantity[_['sequence-index']])"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('totalCost', qty*value)"> It's the last line that causes the error. I've tried a number of things, such as converting the variables to floats, all with no success. I receive the following Zope Error: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: Illegal sequence repeat I appreciate any help. -- John
