This is another example of the problem I reported a couple weeks ago of being unable to post certain messages. I've got the latest ZDiscussions. It definitely seems to be specific to the content of the message, so I thought another example might help. manage_editProperties??

I'd like to change my manage_editProperties method of my property sheets to maintain the currently set value of a variable if one doesn't exist in the REQUEST object...if one IS there, but is None, then I can wipe it out... The problem I'm having is wanting to update a single property value, without specifying all the values. I just want to increment one value and set it again...but when I do, it wipes all the other variables out because I don't set them in the REQUEST object... Is there an easy way to do this?? Thanks! Copy & paste in folderish products

Hi there, As mentioned earlier on the list, I've written a Folderish product (ZFormulatorForm) to which objects can be added (objects with classes derived from a Field class). This works thanks to the Other Martijn, but copy & paste (as well as rename) does not. With more help from the Other Martijn I've tracked down the failure to line 360 of OFS/CopySupport.py: if hasattr(meth, '__roles__'): This hasattr fails (meth has no __roles__ attribute) as a result of which the method _verifyObjectPaste raises a CopyError exception. What is __roles__ supposed to do? I've tracked down 'meth' as the attribute of ZFormulatorForm that is used to add a field to the form, for instance: manage_addBasicFieldForm 'meth' itself isn't called, only the __roles__ attribute is checked, to perform a security check. My 'meth' is a special class of my own. This is due to some hackery to make the entire setup work to my liking; HTMLFile does not work (see another earlier post; it seems HTMLFile does now allow single .dtml file to be used in multiple ways; i.e. <dtml-var foo> will always evaluate to the latest definition of 'foo' in a HTMLFile construction). I suspect the __roles__ attribute might be defined in MethodObject.so. Should I start digging into the .c sources or am I on the wrong track? What is __roles__ supposed to contain? Another associated problem is that 'add <field meta_type>Fields' security fields are not added to the security screen of ZFormulatorForm. This may be due to my changing the meta_types attribute of ZFormulatorForm manually when registering fields with it. But I wouldn't think this would matter, as ZFormulatorForm is only registered with Zope *after* my meddling. But for some reason no security permissions for the adding of the fields are appearing... Perhaps this is also dependent on the mysterious __roles__ attribute of the manage_add methods? I really wish there were documented interfaces for the Zope sources at a time like this.. sanity check needed for catalog bug(?)

I have a bunch of documents, in a bunch of folders, let's say they're set up like this: f1/help/documents f2/help/documents f3/help/documents f1, f2, and f3 each define a property that I want to store in the meta-data (and index) of the documents. Something in the change from CVS Version 1.42 to 1.43 of lib/python/Products/ZCatalog/Catalog.py made it so that for some of the entries, this property name is not getting put in the entries with the documents. Instead, I'm getting Missing.Value (when it comes out of the catalog). The problem is that the diff between the versions don't seem like they _should_ break things. I guess I'm just asking if anyone else has seen this as well, or is it just me. (How do I know it is this? cvs up -r1.42 Catalog.py, restart: works. cvs up -r1.43 Catalog.py, restart: broken again.) Yes, it's in the collector, but this is bugging me... Anthony

another data point for dcoracle crashes.

today, a table that gets hit a lot ran out of space when we were in the middle of moderately heavy testing. We started getting: Error Type: oci.error Error Value: (1043, 'ORA-01043: user side memory corruption [], [], [], []\012', "SELECT d.name as name,\012 d.value as value\012 FROM Session_data d, Sessions s\012WHERE \012s.session_name = 'mbC5HGphnQvCdFa/yKfXYg'\012AND\012s.session_id = d.session_id \012AND d.name = '__sessac'") followed by the DCOracle cursors being unusable. Is it possible that there's either a bug in the code in DCOracle that handles errors that isn't multithread safe? Or in the Oracle client libs? The above error means that the area of memory for the cursor/host bit in the client application got stomped. This is on Redhat Linux 5.2, Oracle 8.0.5.0.0 Anthony

Server push and Zope

Has anyone written ExternalMethods or DTML pages that do server push? It was probably impossible with Zope1 because of the single thread, but with Zope2 it might be possible to start a new subthread to service each push-receiving client. Why do I care about a Netscape-only extension/hack like server push? Because of http://www.mems-exchange.org/exchange/software/microscope/web-login.html (use the INM200 if you try it out), which uses a Java servlet to provide a Web-based microscope interface. Zope would probably have enough flexibility to make this interface less hopelessly lame. -- A.M.
