DTML Method Namespace

Hi. I'm new to Zope; I have a question (or perhaps a rant) about DTML methods and how names are looked up. Suppose I have a folder with two methods: MyFolder | +--get_info | +--show_info The method 'show_info' takes some arguments from its caller, and calls 'get_info' to get some data. But it is impossible. I do not know, in general, where the caller is calling from in the tree. And since I inherit the caller's namespace, or whatever the caller feels like providing, there is no way to get to the get_info method, even though it is sitting right there in the same folder. I suppose I can insist that the caller provide its namespace to me. But that seems rather demanding. This is so frustrating -- I did many revisions of this message to get rid of all the allcaps and exclamation points. :) Any help is much appreciated. Image.tag(class='x')

How can I specify the HTML4 'class' attribute on an image? For example, I want <dtml-var "images.arrow.tag(border='0', class='arrowimg')"> to generate <img src="images/arrow" border="0" class="arrowimg"> but this does not parse because 'class' is a Python keyword! Can I get around this somehow? ZMySQLDA problem after following HOW TO...

I followed the directions in the How-To by alanpog. Everything seemed to go along well. I restarted and checked the control panel only to find a 'broken' installation... Here is the Traceback... dtml-var missing

I found an undocumented feature today- <dtml-var x missing> This displays x if x is defined (but if it is None, then the word "None" is displayed.) If x is not defined then nothing is displayed and there is no error. So, I put this in ZQR but now I am thinking - is this an undocumented feature by mistake or did you intend to deprecate it and so it is undocumented for a reason? deactivating HTTP authentication

On a site I am working on, there is an HTML form for user login. But if the user enters an incorrect login name and password, then Zope responds with an HTTP response that causes the browser to pop up a window asking for auth information. Instead I want to respond with an HTML message and another form (or something). pythonmethods and namespaces.

A note in one of Chris' tutorials reminded me of this... the need to whack a self. on the front of every acquired attribute inside a pythonmethod is slowly driving me insane. from what I can see, the issue is that Python itself won't accept anything but a dictionary for the namespace arguments to exec or eval()... right? This means you can't pass a MultiMapping to it... I'm assuming this is so for performance, or is it just because that's how it's always been? Is this likely to be changed? Can anyone else see a way out of this? I thought about adding something to MultiMappings to allow you to generate a proper dictionary from the MM, but that would bite for performance in a big way... Hm, might try hacking the interpreter's source to switch the test from PyDict_Check to PyMapping_Check, see what happens... Anthony

Local ZClasses (Namespace pollution revisited)

Is there any good reason why I can't just add a ZClass somewhere outside a Product? All we would need is a ``Local ZClass'' product that is really a wrapped ZClass, and then make ObjectManager check in the acquisition path for ZClasses in addition to the ones in the Control Panel (it already does that if I understand ObjectManager.all_meta_types correctly). I can't think of any security problems offered by this, or any other reasons not too. I may even code it myself, but I'd have to learn the old python-based product API, so I'd be more comfortable if someone more used to it and Zope internals gives this a try. status.py out of sync?

The Zope version at least of status.py seems to be out of sync with the recent changes to asyncore.py eg I think that channel_list_producer should contain something like channel_reprs = map ( lambda x: '<' + repr(x[0]) + ',' + repr(x[1])[1:-1] + '>', asyncore.socket_map.items() ) rather than channel_reprs = map ( lambda x: '<' + repr(x[1])[1:-1] + '>', asyncore.socket_map.keys() ) the same is true wherever we refer to the keys() as these seem to be just integers now rather than objects. -- Robin Becker
