Hi, today i tried to use the apache mod_fastcgi to skip the cgi-wrapper. after fighting a little bit with apache i discovered that the configuration snippet in WEBSERVER.txt is wrong: FastCgiExternalServer /PATH/TO/apache/htdocs/zope \ -socket /tmp/zope.soc \ -pass-header Authorization the "-socket /tmp/zope.soc" makes you think that the module takes absolute paths but that's not the case. the path is always relative to FastCgiIpcDir (= /tmp/fcgi in last release.) i sugget to modify the example as follow: -------- # zope and apache should have rwx permission to the following # directory, to create (zope) and connect (apache) to the ipc socket FastCgiIpcDir /your/ipc/dir # note the relative path to the ipc socket in the following directive FastCgiExternalServer /PATH/TO/apache/htdocs/zope \ -socket zope.soc \ -pass-header Authorization ------- and also change "-F /tmp/zope.soc" to "-F /your/ipc/dir/zope.soc" about 20 lines above. note also that using /tmp as the socket directory is... mmm... bad if you have a daemon like tmpreaper running. finally, maybe someone is interested in how to use an url like http://localhost and have fastcgi call zope. this is how i did it: <VirtualHost localhost> DocumentRoot /var/www RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^/(.*) /zope/$1 \ [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] FastCgiExternalServer /var/www/zope -socket Z2-fcgi.soc \ -pass-header Authorization -flush SetHandler fastcgi-script </VirtualHost> very usefull for production sites running multiple virtual hosts. ciao, federico -- Federico Di Gregorio MIXAD LIVE System Programmer fog(a)mixadlive.com Debian GNU/Linux Developer & Italian Press Contact fog(a)debian.org A short story: I want you. External Method Return value?

I have found myself in the position of needing an external method to accomplish a task. However, I have not found enough information that (by example) shows me how to return something that will be processed by a dtml-in statement. I am replacing the old SQLMethod within the dtml-in with an external method. Therefore, the current code is looking for various SQL fields to exist in the returned result set. How do I do this? A Python example would be GREATLY appreciated! I am writing my first python as well. I learn best by example. python 1.6, ZPublisher

I understand that python 1.6 adds methods to string objects. Does this have implications for access control in ZPublisher? I guess that it will be possible to use something like http://localhost/object/private_string_attribute/uppercase to snoop into attributes that are not published if using python 1.5.x (Yes, I know python 1.6 isnt supported for Zope today. Problem with ftp to zserver!

Hi,all: I want to transfer file to my remote server using ftp: ftp **.**.**.** 8021 With correct username and password. After passing the verification of Username and Password without any error message. I cannot list the directory...,and cannot get or put file... But I can do it in local server without any problem! The problem is (and this is visible if you make the form a GET rather than a POST) that browsers don't send back the name of an image when you click on an input type=image. Instead they send back name.x=n and name.y=m, where n and m are the x and y offsets in the image where the mouse was clicked. So in the above, you'll get add:method.x and add:method.y in the input. I guess you _could_ hack zope to look for foo:bar.x and foo:bar.y and if seen, also put foo:bar in the request, but then, what do you put in as the value (since image inputs don't send the value through). Input type=image is a poorly implemented hack, at least in the versions of browsers I've looked at. (And don't even get me started about the javascript support for input type=image.) What about, instead doing something like <a href="?add:method=1"><img src="images/add" border="0"></a> Anthony

I have the following problem: <form action="."> <input name="add:method" type="submit" value="Add"> <input name="index_html:method" type="submit" value="Cancel"> </form> The above Form works just fine (this is how Zope handles their object tree as well). But, <form action="."> <input name="add:method" type="image" src="Images/add" > <input name="index_html:method" type="submit" value="Cancel"> </form> does not work. Therefore the :method attribute works only for submit types. Is this assumption correct? Anyone knows a fix and/or hack? I am aware that there are other solutions to the problem, but I want to do it this way if at all possible. get_transaction().commit() having no effect?

Hi, I've got a situation where if I make a change and then call get_transaction().commit() in the monitor, it works. No problems. However, if I call it from my python code, nothing happens. Well, it commits until I shut the Zope instance down and restart it. Once I restart it, all the changes I made to those objects have vanished. This is really confusing me. Just to second Andrew's suggestions regarding the need for workflow features to be applied to the Web Content Management process, perhaps as part of the Portal Tool Kit. >Andrew M. A casual observer might conclude that the intention were to add as many steps and people into this process as possible. It's as if they've forgotten we have computers and messaging systems involved that might be able to help us build this Web thingy! Programatically determining access controls?

Hi, I've got a set up where I'd like to have Zope call an object method when someone tries to access the object to determine if they're allowed to do whatever it is they're trying to do. Is this possible? Or do I need to stick with __ac_permissions__ and friends? If so, what's the way of specifying which permissions a role has within the class definition?
