Newbie Alert: creating Products with DTML

I'm fairly new to Python & Zope and am hoping someone could lend a hand.... How would one go about instantiating a 'Product' via DTML? Such as, for example, a ZCatalog? I'm tried the following (arguments may not be exact here): <dtml-call "manage_addZCatalog('Catalog')"> <dtml-call "Control_Panel.Products.ZCatalog.manage_addZCatalog('Catalog')"> (hoping I can call the "static" method in the ZCatalog definition) <dtml-with "addProduct['ZCatalog']"> <dtml-call "manage_addZCatalog('Catalog')"> or (after adding appopriate Properties to REQUEST) <dtml-call "manage_addZCatalog(_.None, _)"> </dtml-with> Is it possible to access the manage_addZCatalog method directly (as is the case with internal classes, such as Image's manage_addImage)? How exactly is it that the 'internal' classes have their manage_add* methods in the Global Namespace? Or, are they actually part of the Zope tree (off root?), thus available via acquisition? Thanks.....

TinyTables are an approach to management of small amounts of data. As long as they're used in such a way that they can be swapped out easily, they're quite useful. I wrote DatabaseAPI for the purpose of making it possible to swap out a database implementation with a better one. Along with that I created the TinyTablesPlus product, which permits programatic updates of a TinyTable. Used together, these products make it easy to start writing database applications without depending on any specific type of database. Shane

LocalFS & adding objects

Hi again, I've broadened my look at things from my previous question. I'm wondering what objects can be added to local FS objects and what happens when you try and add one which you shouldn't. I think the answer to the second question is that they get added to the LocalFS object's parent folder through aquisition. But I'm not sure if there are any bugs surrounding this. Maybe it'd be better if you just got an error? As for the first question, I guess at DTML-methods/documents, 'files' and images. Folders are interesting, which is what caused my original problem. You can add them to a local FS object just fine through the management interface and everything works as expected. However, if try and do a manage_addFolder() call from DTML in a localFS object, the folder gets created in the Local FS object's parent folder. This makes no sense to me. If you can do it through the management interface, then surely there must be a way to 'simulate' this in DTML? Any ideas? Comments? I am missing something? Chris

TinyTables?

I'll ask this again here in the hope of a response :S I remember reading somewhere that TinyTables were based on obsolete technology. Is this the case? If so, what should we be using as a replacement? cheers, Chris

Object permission?

Hello, Me again. I'm designing an S/MIME product which will allow Zope to generate S/MIME-signed/encrypted mail via a "<dtml-smime>" tag. As designed, <dtml-smime> expects, as a parameter, an Smime object created previously. This is similar to <dtml-sendmail>'s use of an existing MailHost object. Associated with each said Smime object is a signer's private key and a bunch of recipient certificates. These are text files uploaded by the creator of the Smime object. The signer key and recipient certificates should not be "readable" via browser by unauthorised users, for obvious reasons. However, the <dtml-smime> machinery, operating under whatever Zope user id is invoking it, should be able to "read" them, in order to do its S/MIME business. First questions: - What permissions do I give to the uploaded key and certificates objects? - What is the difference between "access contents information" and "view"? - How do I assign permissions programmatically? REMOTE_USER

Hello, I've been testing my ZServerSSL in X.509 authentication mode. A quick recap of how it works: ZServerSSL extracts the cert's identity (its subject DN), maps it to a Zope user name, and sets REMOTE_USER accordingly. As it happens, if mapping fails (user cert verifies ok but mapping doesn't exist), REMOTE_USER is unset and Zope will pop up its Basic Authentication dialog box. Because Zope is now running in REMOTE_USER mode, this step always fails. I tested with setting REMOTE_USER to "anonymous": same outcome. [ANNOUNCE] ZServerSSL 0.04

Hello, I am pleased to announce the release of ZServerSSL 0.04. ZServerSSL provides a HTTPS server for Zope. In normal operation, ZServerSSL protects user names, passwords and data in transit against eavesdropping. This release of ZServerSSL presents a significant enhancement: X.509 certificate-based authentication for Zope. In this mode, Zope is run in "remote user" mode, and ZServerSSL's HTTPS server is configured to *require* user certificates. When a user connects, ZServerSSL handles certificate verification, maps the user certificate's "subject distinguished name" to a Zope username and sets REMOTE_USER accordingly. Zope's REMOTE_USER machinery takes care of the rest. Given valid user certificates and mappings from certificates to Zope users, Zope no longer requires passwords for access. This improves site security by removing the need to store passwords on the Zope site. This mode of operation can be adapted to other HTTPS servers like Apache+SSL, Roxen+SSL, etc. that perform certificate-based authentication. Final on the Zope spin out

This is weird. The following code flips Zope out until you kill the thread that picked up the request. <dtml-in "_.range(0, 105, 5)"> <option value="<dtml-var "_.float(_['sequence-item'])/100">"> <dtml-var "_.float(_['sequence-item'])">% </option> </dtml-in> But this code renders fine swear to God: <dtml-in "_.range(0, 105, 5)"> <option value="<dtml-var "_.float(_['sequence-item'])/100">"> <dtml-var "_.float(_['sequence-item'])">% </option> </dtml-in> Notice the <option> tags flush left. Please tell me someone can reproduce this. My base ZClass subclasses nothing.
