How to confuse the publishing process

If you go to a URL that ends in a folder, you get the index_html in that folder, right? Well, yes and no... If you go to: http://server.com/folder1/folder2/folder1 ...where folder1 is a folder in your Zope's root, folder2 is contained in folder1, but doesn't itself contain a folder1 (so the last folder1 in the url is also the first one, just acquired), Zope returns the following: <html><head> <base href="http://localhost:8080/testnav/normaltest/testnav/"> </head> <body> <Folder instance at 014B3D80> </body> </html> So, what's going on here? why no index_html rendering? cheers, Chris

Frozen Zope?

Has anyone tried to use the "Freeze" utility on Zope? How about Gordon McMillian's "Install" application to make a self-contained Python-Zope executable for Win32? My goal is to create a very easy install of Zope that consists of one or two files. For some of my clients this seems less intimidating on their machines (they would rather not see the "source code", just an executable). Do you think this is possible? Thanks

Import with INSTANCE_HOME?

Can anyone tell me how to do a "from Products.ZPatterns import anything" when using INSTANCE_HOME? Do I have to add the INSTANCE_HOME path to sys.path? Thanks

ZPatterns - GPG/PGP Rack.

Hi, all. I might have misunderstood the Racks place in ZPatterns, but anyway... To me, this sounds like a really, really cool idea. If we passed the User object along to the Racks (which is what it does now?), and let the Rack (GPG/PGP Rack, that is) have access to either an external or internal keyserver, and the User object contained a pgp_user_id, then the Rack could use that attrib (and since it would be an AUTHENTICATED_USER) to sign/verify/encrypt/decrypt information within that Rack. The Rack would also store all previous revisions of itself, so that data never would be overwritten - and one could see who, when and what was changed (on attribute level, since Racks control each attribute?). Or maybe this should be on SheetProvider/AttributeProvider level? I guess it would suffice with a class that they could subclass. I would be happy to implement this (although, I won't have time till February or later) - I just to make sure that my head is screwed on the right way here. By the way, go ZPatterns.

Allowed characters in Zope ids

I recently read RFC 2396 which defines the generic URI syntax and especially the URL syntax. I recognized, that * Zope forbids many characters in ids (with the error message "not allowed in URLs"), that are legal characters in URL path segments: generally allowed in URL's: -_.!~*'() Zope accepted: _. ~ allowed in path segments: :@&=+$, Zope accepted: , This, probably, is not a big problem. But, it would be easy to fix. * Zope allows space characters in (ObjectManager) id's. The space is not a valid URL character. Zope forbids spaces in property ids. * The URL path segment syntax provides for a parameter section suffix where each parameter is introduced with ';'. Future Zope versions should probably take care of this (recent) extension. It might, too, provide a good way to pass values in URLs without the pollution of the query string. Dieter

[ZPatterns] DataSkin object ownership

Do DataSkins have ownership? I want to give multiple users the ability to add objects to a rack and only allow the 'owner' to view/edit the object. When a user adds a DataSkin to a rack does he get ownership of the object? I can't seem to get the ownership information for these objects. Is there a way to do this? BTW - I'm talking about virtual object that totally live in MySQL. Thanks, -Ben

But it might be a significant difference, whether you access via HTTP or HTTPS or even a protocol that provides trusted authentication. Furthermore, I would not bring DTML and web access on the same level: There are objects, that should be usable by Anonymous inside DTML but should not be viewable over the web (as they will only confuse). All page components (such as "standard_html_header/footer") fall into this category. Dieter
