Unable to clear proxy roles in Zope 2.3.0

In Zope 2.2.x, one can clear the proxy roles for one method by unseleting all proxy roles. In Zope 2.3.0, this lets to this error: You must select one or more proxy roles. ZDebug patch for 2.3.0

Zope on OpenBSD 2.8 problem solved

Hi, For those of you wishing to run Zope on OpenBSD 2.8, here is a solution. The reason it doesn't work in the first place is a thread bug in the OpenBSD 2.8 release version. The solution is to use the libc_r from OpenBSD 2.7 for the Zope instance. Thanks to Jason Ish for the howto, I thought I would rewrite it to be more generic and post it to the lists. So, here we go: Python on OpenBSD 2.8 uses /usr/lib/libc_r.so.3.1. libc_r.so.3.1 is from 2.8, libc_r.so.3.0 is from 2.7 and will work. So what we do is to copy the old libc file (if you don't have it, mail me and I'll send it to you) into a directory in the Zope install dir, and add that to the path. Then we rename the old file so the system thinks it is the curent version. In this example, I assume your Zope install is in /usr/local/zope. First, we copy the old library into our Zope dir, and rename it: cp /usr/lib/libc_r.so.3.0 /usr/local/zope/libc_r.so.3.1 Then you should add something like this to the top of your "start" script: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/zope Start Zope, and you will find that it works fine now. Zope also works fine in the CURRENT tree of OpenBSD, so presumably it will work out-of-the-box on OpenBSD 2.9. This is the safest way of getting it to work at the moment. So, I wrote the simple container class at the end of this message that contains a grab-bag of methods that can be used for my application as well as with a variety of others that use <dtml-with> and <dtml-in>. It essentially provides all that "_.namespace()" does, plus some extra introspection. It's concocted from various pieces of Zope and the HowTos. Now, philosophical Zope questions: * To those in the know, is there any problems returning non-persistent structures? * Next, it there a reason that there's no sanctioned class for this purpose? * Can you return a populated namespace from a DTML Method or a Python Script using existing mechanisms? * Why can't you set values in "_.namespace()" in DTML after a namespace has been created? * To me, it would make so much more sense to be able create a namespace with temporary variables (as shown in one of the HowTos) rather than forcing people to hack them using REQUEST.set(). The namespace could be used directly as a structure (eg, "ns.x") or as a scope (eg, <dtml-with ns> <dtml-var x> </dtml-with> ). Is there a deep reason it doesn't exist? Anyway, here's my "no-guarantee" class. Notice the magic member "__allow_access_to_unprotected_subobjects__", which the documentation (read, code) says can also be set to a list of members that you want to be publicly accessible and unprotected. Use this code as a guide; you can trim it down to get what you want. ZCatalog FieldIndex bug in Zope 2.3.0b3

Hi, FieldIndex's don't work quite right in 2.3. Try this: - create a Catalog with a FieldIndex called 'test' - create a DTML document with a property 'test', value 'fish' - catalog the document - now change the value of the property to 'finger' and re-catalog. If you now search for test='finger' it'll return the document. However, if you search for test='fish', it will also return the document, which is wrong. cheers, Chris PS: Tabular reporting ZSearch Interfaces generated from Catalogs have quite badly b0rKen results forms, in that, for some reason, the search form ends up in a column of the results table, very confusing...

...but the error message looks better ;^)= Installed fresh 2.3.0, and Membership, so I could finish the testing, and preop a 2.3.0 compatible release (mmm Python Scripts yummy....), but upon the install trying to copy the MemberCatalog I get the following traceback. Zope's globbing vocabularies support wildcards '*' and '?'. To implement wildcard based searches efficiently, they index words under their two letter consitutents. When you now get a pattern, you derive from the pattern what two letter constituents the matching words must have and retrieve them. This defines a candidate word set. Then you check, whether the retrieved word really match the expression. You can extend this algorithm to get fuzzy searches. Dieter

Hello everyone, I want to make my own name space with the following situation: class X: attributes = {'foo': 'bar'} x = X() Then I want to use it like that: <dtml-with x> <dtml-var foo> </dtml-with> The result should be : bar I found out that I have to somehow use TemplateDict and InstanceDict, but I have no clue how to use it....Of course there is no documentation on any web site or in the Zope code itself.... Added rename to ZOPE FTP server

Hi, I've added the rename capability to the Zope FTP-server, so I could use the KDE FTP client (this is a known Zope bug). I attached the 3 modified files (from the 2.2.5 src distro). There is however another problem in the ZOPE ftpd which is probably not related to my patches, but for which I have not found the cause. The SIZE command (used by the KDE ftp-client as a kind of file-exists probe) reports the size of identical named objects higher in the tree, to reproduce: copy with the KDE FTP client a directory tree which has fileabc in the top directory and a file "fileabc" in a subdirectory to the Zope ftp server. The SIZE command returns a size (for a non existing object!) but the LIST command works o.k.
