Zope-2.5.1 restart failed

Hi all, i have a problem restarting my Zope-2.5.1 TTW. If i hit the Restart-button in the Control_Panel Zope seems to restart, but if i click on Root-Folder in the menu i got ValueError: I/O operation on closed file The stupid-log say the following 2002-10-11T06:00:45 INFO(0) ApplicationManager Restart requested by "andre" ------ 2002-10-11T06:01:00 ERROR(200) ZODB Couldn't load state for '\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00T' Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/share/zope/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 447, in setstate File /usr/share/zope/lib/python/ZODB/FileStorage.py, line 582, in load (Object: /var/zope/var/Data.fs) File /usr/share/zope/lib/python/ZODB/FileStorage.py, line 558, in _load (Object: /var/zope/var/Data.fs) ValueError: I/O operation on closed file It seems to me the Zope is not starting correctly, or i'am wrong I'am running Zope-2.5.1 on RedHat 7.2 with python2-2.1.1-2. How can I find out who visited a URL within my Zope Product?

Hello: I would like to log the identity of the authenticated user for *every* URL traversal within my Zope Product. For example, let's say that my forms-based web application contains 50 screens. They are all protected such that only authenticated users can view them. Any one of them could be bookmarked, so a user could "jump in" at any point. I want to record the fact that a user visited a screen, each and every time they do so. A natural place to do this would be in a pre-traversal hook, but I seem to be stymied by the lack of authentication information in __bobo_traverse__ or __before_publishing_traverse__ Can anyone think of a way this could be done? I suppose I could hack all of my ZPTs to call a "registerUser" method by putting it in an empty <span> in their shared header, but that seems to mix concerns. Why should my ZPTs have knowledge of this workflow requirement? Thanks in advance! --Craeg

Can't edit CMF/Plone content if the creator is deleted

I don't know if this is a Zope, CMF, Plone or DCWorkflow issue, but I just got bitten by what appears to be a bug in someone's security handling. If you create some content as user A, then delete user A, no one can edit the content, or change it's ownership. I created a site as "manager" and created a bunch of content. Then I created the users that would actually be maintaining the content and deleted "manager" (It's far too easy to guess at). Suddenly, all updates started failing, and continued failing, untill I re-created the "manager" user. I have set the domain to 127.0.0.1 so the user can not log in, but I would really like to know if this is and intended security feature or a bug. Any input would be appreciated. Adrian...

Hi all, I made some changes in my local versions of LUF and LRT. I've checked out the latested code from cvs.dataflake.org and rewritten LRT to use SimpleCache and SimpleLog. I also tried the integrate the validate-changes from LRE from Shane, hoping that this would solve my problems, but it did not :-( By the way I found a possible bug: LRT does cache all users in the _anonymous_cache. I found this while I extended getUsers() to return both _authenticated_cached and _anonymous_cached users. In the properties.dtml I'm going to display if an user is in _authenticated_cache or not. I saw by this way that all users in LRT are _anonymous_cached ! I put the patches on the internet under: http://datzert.bei.t-online.de/patches Can somebody verify this patch and give feedback ? The way that Zope changes user under the start up sequence doesn't change the groups. I'm not sure if this was due to a bug in earlier Python, but there might be a fix/more info about this in the mail archives or on zope.org or even in the collector (haven't check). Got the same problems a while back trying to execute Qmail commands with external methods some while ago. MailHost.py does not set the "Date" header, who's bug?

Hello: I have noticed that all of my notifications on page edits in my ZWiki are dated year=1969. This happens because there is no "Date" header in the email message sent from ZWiki (version 0.10) The MailHost product that comes with Zope 2.5.1 does not add a Date header to mail messages. My mozilla email client seems to interpret the lack of a date header as date="the beginning of time", or somewhere in 1969 ;-) My Zope-based web app *also* uses MailHost to send out emails. It has the same problem. Here is my question. Should ZWiki, my web app, and everybody else's Zope-based web app in the world have to add "Date" headers? Or maybe MailHost should be smart enough to add a Date header with Date=now if Date is missing from the header...? If someone from ZC agrees that this is a good idea, I would be happy to provide a patch. Regards, --Craeg

Medusa Request Queue/profiling

Good day, We are in the process of profiling our web cluster which runs ZEO. One thing I am interested in is what happens when a Zeo Client recieves more requests than it has threads to handle. Our Zeo Clients have 8 threads running. It is my understanding that if more than 8 requests are sent to a client at one time it will queue up the remaining requests and process them as threads become available. Is this correct? If so is there a way to easily see how many requests are queued on each of our Zeo Clients? We would like to increase the overall speed of our system. And my first intuition is to increase the number of threads. I think on average we have more requests than we have threads to handle but I would like to see how often requests are queued on the Zeo Clients to confirm this. Ideally we would have enough threads to handle our average load of requests (I think). However if adding more threads to our existing machines is going to require more memory than the machines have it's time to add/upgrade machines. If anyone has comments, suggestions, or knows how to find out some of the numbers I'm looking for please let me know. Thank you, -Brian Brinegar

Refresh ZEO interactive python when changing product's code?

This is OT, but I have a deadline approaching and needed to go where the ZEO users are so I can get this figured out as soon as possible, in case zope-general doesn't yield a suggestion. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer, hopefully this is old-hat to some of the people on this list. I'm using CVS ZEO2 with Zope 2.5.1 connected via ClientStorage on the same machine. My python console is PythonWin installed under Zope's python. Long story short, I'm adding a few methods to Formulator, but the question here is about python product development in general. My console isn't aware of product refreshes. What should I be doing to get the python console to recognize the updated python product code when I run a refresh from the ZEO-connected Zope ZMI? Here's a sample console problem demonstrating the symptoms, and some of the things I've tried to avoid closing out the python console each time I change python code in a product. This is probing how to get the console to recognize that __setitem__'s implementation has changed from 'print test1' to 'print test2' after the first call.
