Hi Chris, Is there a way to get the fszsqlmethod working on win32 with zope 2.5.1 and cmf1.2 or 1.3? I've placed dtml-comments around the sql. How do I supply the connection id? Hello, I'm trying to use zsql methods from the filesystem using the filesystem directory view. DTML, ZPT, and python scripts show up but not the .zsql files. Is there a way I can get them working now? Is there a time frame for its release? Mixin required for Subobject in Z Class?

I have created a (so far very) simple Z Class that inherits from ZObject and ZObjectManager. The Subobjects tab lets me select any kind of object *except* a ReStructuredText Document, which is provided by the ZReST 1.0 Product. Richard Jones, the ZReST author, suggested that perhaps a mixin class was needed in ZReST for this to work. What is required here? Fix broken python on Mac OS X version 10.2

sorry for the crossposting, here's a little heads-up for the mac OS X crowd: upon upgrading to 10.2 (jaguar) you will most likely find that your python binary (along with most other self-compiled software) is broken. in the case of python a simple re-build (if you compiled from source, that is) fixes this. i added explicit instructions to the "Zope and Python on Mac OS X" HowTo at http://www.zope.org/Members/jens/docs/zope_osx i highly recommend re-building zope after that as well. jens

limit to number of operations in a transaction?

Hello, So I've run into a problem. I had the need to migrate our a database of people from an old storage format to a new one. The old format uses Folders and Properties to store information about a person. Name, phone, email, address, etc. The new format uses a Product that I wrote which stores said data in a ParsedXML document. I have roughly 1,500 people in the database. I wrote a script to migrate the people. Basically it does getProperty for each property on each person folder, then creates the new person object which uses XML. Zope apparently cannot handle this number of operations in one transaction. Zope gets slower and slower and eventually becomes on responsive. It looks like the script has completed, but nothing is ever committed to the ZODB, and since Zope is unresponsive it must be restarted. This, as expected, kills that entire transaction which was never committed. Is it known that large numbers of operations, such as above, in a single transaction can cause problems? A transaction, of course, being a request, and an operation being something like manage_addProduct. I've solved the "problem" by using xmlrpc and for person in people calling my migrate_person script for only one person at a time. This is SO MUCH FASTER. I previously ran the script that migrates all of the people, and after 8 hours it still had not completed. Thoughts? -Chris

how can I call os.spawn? (From a newbie)

I need to kick off a custom (non-CGI) program from a web request. I tried to call one of the spawn functions from the os module (using Python obviously), but Zope's security won't let me. [What actually happens is that the browser asks me to re-authenticate, although I'm already authenticated as the "super user".] How can I kick off another process from a Python scipt in Zope? or is there another way of doing it? thanks! -Mark __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Zope Binary Release Changes for Zope 2.6

Zope is currently released in three binary formats: Windows - i386 Solaris 2.6 - SPARC Linux RH 5.2 - i386 All binary releases come with python 2.1.3, built without large file support. We are proposing to change the binary distributions to newer releases, at least on the Solaris and Linux platforms. The new Solaris binary would be Solaris 2.8. The new Linux binary would be RedHat 7.2 based (i.e. glibc 2.1). It is very likely that the supplied Pythons would be built with large file support *enabled* for these platform, unless some unforseen compatibility issue arose. If there are requirements for keeping the binary distributions based on the older software, we need to understand these requirements.
