Textpad tool for parsing Stupid Log files to make traceback print outs clickable Additional details: TextPad from Helios Software Solutions (http://textpad.com) is an excellent tool for working with Python and Zope-files. Besides support for text coloring of common Python and Zope syntaxes it is possible to setup "Tools" that run a program or a script. A Modest Proposal Concerning Monkey Patches

There is a large problem looming with Moneky Patches. The problem is that monkey patches are so Highlander. "There can be Only One". For example, there are at least five or six products that monkey patch manage_main. Each simply replaces whatever manage_main exists at the time of instantation, and blows away any previous monkey patch. Some coordinated way of dealing with this problem needs to be arrived at. Proposal: for concreteness sake, suppose manage_main is being patched. A monkey patch author does the following: 1) checks to see if the file being patched is in $(INSTANCE_HOME)/tmp A) If not, he proceeds directly with the patch B) If so, he makes whatever checks he can to determine if he can update the file in $(INSTANCE_HOME)/tmp. i) If he cannot, it is his decision whether to follow current practice and simply blow away the current monkey patch (Boo! Hiss!) or, ii) fail (sigh, curse!). 2) If the monkey patch is installed, then the installed file is written in $(INSTANCE_HOME)/tmp. I.e., the new manage_main.py is written to $(INSTANCE_HOME)/tmp. This assumes that z2.py is modified so that it clears out $(INSTANCE_HOME)/tmp on each start. It might be also be a good idea to keep a section of comments at the top of the monkeypatch file showing the history of monkeypatch application. Comments? Jim Penny

ZSQLMethod is stupid :o|

Hi again, I tried the suggestion of Leonardo, but I got one simple - but nonetheless annoying - problem right now: I defined an SQL method with the two parameters title and plicense. Now if I call self.save_license(something, something_else) he keeps complaining "missing input variable plicense", which I truly do not understand. (I even named the variables in the function call title and plicense, and nothing happened!). Can anyone help me with this? Thanks again and greetings, Axel.

saving dictionaries in MySQL database with using existing connection

Hi again, I have a little problem: I have to save a dictionary object in a MySQL database. For this I have a MySQLDatabaseConnection in my folder, and I want to use this for database access. Now I don't know how I use this connection to save my dict over it. Am have succeeded in using queries with it (I can generate a query, and fire it into the database), but this is not what I intend. I want to say something like this (very, very roughly!): db.save(dictionary) ...and Zope should put my dict into the db. Serialized. Does anyone know whether this is possible or not, and if yes, how? Coroner's toolkit for zope, or how to figure out what went wrong.

Yo, we had a nasty crash of our zope server that we use for a b2b web application. The Data.fs ZODB lost a significant amount of data. At this point, we restored the Data.fs from our last backup and the server is back up and running. (breathing relieved) What worries me is that we have no clue whatsoever on what happened, besides the constatation that somehow, somewhere we lost a whole tree of objects. So does anyone have an object browser of the ZODB or some tools/procedures on how to find out what went wrong? I really hope we are not going to lose a lot of sleep because of this. TIA, Sloot.

Hi, for the NZO effort I downloaded the site-layout product. Looking at the makefiles I see, that in cvs.mk we have a section # Zope versions src/Zope-2.5.0: CVS_REPOSITORY=${ZOPE_CVS_REPOSITORY} src/Zope-2.5.0: CVS_MODULE=Zope src/Zope-2.5.0: CVS_TAG=-r Zope-2_5_0-src src/Zope-2.5-head: CVS_REPOSITORY=${ZOPE_CVS_REPOSITORY} src/Zope-2.5-head: CVS_MODULE=Zope src/Zope-2.5-head: CVS_TAG=-r Zope-2_5-branch My question is: What for do we have src/Zope-2.5.0 and src/Zope-2.5-head? Hi, I'm looking for documentation on Record.pyd, preferably the Record.py equivalent (for Zope 2.5.1). I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to add grouping and statistics to ZCatalogs.
