I did not (yet) implemented my own server, thus, I cannot tell you the details. But, I am very confident that you do not need to change ZServer when you do not want to. -- Dieter

Yes but impossible to update it because it is too big, and the transaction never finish or abort because of time out. I don't know how to do this. Making a custom class addable to another class in product, but not to Zope

Greetings. I'm relatively new to Python-based development of Zope products. I've got two classes in my product; let's call them Container and Thing. I want to have Container addable to any old folder in the ZMI; that's no problem, I just register it in my product's __init__.py file. I want Container to allow instances of Thing to be added to it, and nothing else; that's also no problem, using all_meta_types. However, I want Thing to be addable to Container, but not to any other ObjectManager-based object. I can't figure that one out. I assumed I could do it by having an entry for Thing in Container's all_meta_types property, and by *not* registering it in __init__.py. Unfortunately, that fails. If I click on the "Add Thing" button in the ZMI when viewing the content of a Container, I get Cannot locate object at http://localhost:8080/kb0/manage_addProduct/ [ignore line break] MyProduct/manage_addThingForm If I register Thing in __init__.py, then the Add Thing button works perfectly, but I can add a Thing to any folder in the ZMI. It looks like the registration process is necessary to get manage_addThingForm added to whatever registry of constructors manage_addProduct['MyProduct'] accesses. Is there a way around this? I'd think what I'm trying to do is pretty standard, but I can't find anything enlightening. Thanks, ..Ian

Core Dump (Zope 2.7, Python 2.3.3, FreeBSD 4.5)

I've been experiencing the most peculiar core dump under Zope 2.7. It's on a web application we only decided to revive late last week, so it was never tested under earlier beta/RC conditions. The core dump occurs when visiting manage_main on a particular folder. The contents of this folder are basically just Python Scripts, Page Templates, and a few DTML Methods (including standard_error_message). I can get manage_main to render in zopectl debug (using Testing.make_request to make enough of a REQUEST object for it to render with). And I can read everything in that particular folder with zopectl debug. I used this to experiment with moving items around between folders - including moving all of the templates/scripts into their own folder outside of the web application. It still core dumps. At one point, I thought I had narrowed it down to a particular template (although the reasons for why it would be this template elude me) by doing some interactive Python work [I had written some helper 'move_object' and 'copy_object' functions a while back, and used them to move items between a pair of folders and then seeing which one Zope would crash on]. I got the contents of the template out using ``zopectl debug``, and recreated the template by hand, now that I could actually get into the target folder. It worked for a brief moment, but so did the source folder, which now had this one particular template remaining. I tried various imports and exports of the web application, including using one that was known to still be working off of a production server (Zope 2.6.1, Python 2.1). I even tried copying the contents (individually) of the folder - completely removing them from original context. It still core dumps. (Before I tried imports and exports, it was running in a Data.fs that had been copied from a Zope 2.6.1 instance to 2.7. Python Scripts were recompiled) Finally, I thought it might be a Python 2.3.3/FreeBSD issue (like there were issues with default stack size on Python 2.1.x and FreeBSD). This Python 2.3.3 had been built from source just last week, on the day I installed Zope 2.7 final on our development server. So I downloaded Zope 2.6.4 and ran that with Python 2.3.3, importing the problematic export. I could list the contents of this particular folder just fine. The import had Python 2.1 compiled scripts, so I recompiled them and exported it again just to see if that was causing strange issues - but when brought into Zope 2.7, the core dump still happens. The folder in question is not terribly large - when I extracted the scripts/templates manually into a new folder, I think it has about 41 items in it. What should I do next? Should I familiarize myself with gdb and inspect the core? What are some things I could look for if that's the next step?

Hi, all I try to override PUT_factory method in my container product I read in several webpages I need to create a PUT_factory method in my product to override these mechanism These method could be like: def PUT_factory(self, name, typ, body): return ZopePageTemplate(name, body, content_type=typ) In these case all the objects created by the WebDAV/FTP services will be ZopePageTemplates but these code doesn't work! :( Can anyone explain me the correct solution? Thanks!!!

read-only ZPublisher.Publish

hi guys, i have a question about ZPublisher.Publish. i am creating a read-only version of a Zope/Plone site for burning on a CD. i have set the read-only attribute in the <zodb_db main> section in zope.conf, and made the entire directory system read-only. when i try to view a specific page, i get an error * Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 104, in publish * Module Zope.App.startup, line 221, in commit * Module ZODB.Transaction, line 232, in commit * Module ZODB.Transaction, line 340, in _commit_begin * Module ZODB.Connection, line 692, in tpc_begin * Module ZODB.BaseStorage, line 142, in tpc_begin which i was able to fix by adding the line transactions_manager=None # jeremy after the line (bobo_before, bobo_after, object, realm, debug_mode, err_hook, validated_hook, transactions_manager)= get_module_info(module_name) in publish() in ZPublisher/Publish.py is there a more elegant way of solving this? such as telling ZPublisher that we are in read-only mode and not to commit anything, not to use any transactions? or is it a sign of some error in the page templates (or somewhere) that the publish() is being called at all, if we are only trying to view a page? cheers jeremy

I am a software developer in SuSE I have installed Zope in SUSE. I want to be able to print from a html page to a printer with measurements as per to the html page produced. I wish to know whther printing from a web page is possoble or not. If yes then is it possible to print accurately upto measurements specified. Will it depend on the type of the printer. TAL i18n breakage in 2.7

Hi, Zope 2.7 introduced a change in its translation interface. Previously a translation service could return None, but now returning None causes an assertion error. http://cvs.zope.org/Zope/lib/python/TAL/TALInterpreter.py.diff?r1=1.77&r2=1… This will break applications (e.g. Plone1) which use Nuxeo's TranslationService, which does return None. Is there a good reason for introducing this compatibility breakage? seb
