Importing Custom Python Classes (fwd)

How do you import your own python class modules into Zope? Here is what I've done: In lib/python/Products I created a directory called MyScriptModules which contains the following: First I import the required Modules: from Product.PythonScripts.Utility import allow_module, allow_class from AccessControl import ModuleSecurityInfo, ClassSecurityInfo from Globals import InitializeClass Then I add the security declarations: from ClassModule.ClassModule import Class1 allow_module('ClassModule.ClassModule') allow_class(Class1) I created a ClassModule directory in the Products directory and placed ClassModule.py class module in it. I then rebooted the Zope server. Now everytime I try this: from ClassModule.ClassModule import Class1 I get this error: import of ClassModule.ClassModule is unauthorized. I have read somewhere that in order to create new Products in Zope you have to meet some Zope API requirements like assigning certain class attributes. Is this true? If so where can I find some documentation? Is there a better way to import custom Python class modules than the way described above? Thanks in advance.

The number of threads in z2.py file.

i'm using Zope-2.6.3, Red Hat-8.0, CMF-1.4.2, and CMFPlone-2.0-RC3. If the number of threads=4, the zope can start but cannot load into ZMI. some breakage on the head

I was doing some branch merging and apparently got mislead by stray .pyc or .so files being left behind after .py and .c files were removed. So there's some broken code on the head; I'll fix ASAP. Jeremy

[ZConfig] "import" inhomogenous

The "import" element of ZConfig schemas is inhomogenous: * with a "package" attribute it imports a component from a Python package * with an "src" attribute it imports a schema from an URL It would be better if the type of the imported object (schema or component) were orthogonal to the location from where the object is found (in a package or via an URL). A use case is the import of the section types defined in "Zope.Startup.zopeschema.xml" for other ZEO applications that require access to the same ZODB database(s). It is far more convenient to access this schema via "package"+"file" than an URL. The attached patch adds an additional "type" attribute to the "import" element. It can take values "schema" or "component" and determines the type of object to be imported. Its default value ("") is handled to provide backward compatibility. -- Dieter

I wrote up a simple proposal for how to change Zope to work better under heavy load: http://zope.org/Members/bjorn/proposals/MakeZopeFailNicelyUnderHeavyLoad The solution is a bit different from what we discussed on the list before; basically do away with the Medusa request queue altogether and use listen()'s backlog instead. Image ranges

Is there a reason why OFS.Image.Image does not __implement__ HTTPRangeInterface like OFS.Image.File does ? As far as I can see there's no reason it shouldn't, as their index_html method (and HEAD inherited from webdav.Resource) are the same. Understanding 2.7 Product import

Ok 2.7 has an instance/Products directory. What magic is letting them be imported? I'm running a bunch of data loader scripts that create persistent zope products. I have found that: import Globals sets things up so that my data loader scripts can import products properly (even though their path is not in sys.path). I looked around in Globals to figure out what's going on and didn't find it. It would be nice if something in: import Zope. would kick off the special import magic! It seems a lot more intuitive to have this at the top of the __main__ script instead of Globals. -EAD

app = Zope.app() backwards incompatibility notice / discussion

The extant "import Zope; app = Zope.app()" dance to get a hold of the Zope root object stopped working long ago on the 2.7 branch and HEAD due to the new configuration machinery, which implies that users be explicit about configuration settings rather than allowing Zope to guess. Up til now, the dance to get Zope 2.7 to start properly from within a script was byzantine and obscure. I've made a checkin which makes it a little easier (or at least I'm about to as soon as the full unit test suite comes back passed ;-). Code which used to do: import Zope app = Zope.app() Will need to do this under 2.7b4+: import Zope Zope.configure('/path/to/configfile') app = Zope.app() (I wont bother telling you what the dance was for 2.7 before now, it was pretty awful). I realize this is suboptimal from a backwards compatibility perspective, but I'm not sure how to make it any better, seeing as the config file has some fairly important information in it (like which databases to use) and guessing would be very bad in this context. Jim Roepke suggested that if an "ZOPE_CONFIG" envvar was set with the config file path, that "import Zope; Zope.app()" could be made to "just work", but I'm not sure this is any better than requiring that developers change their scripts. Guessing at the config file location is also fraught with problems, and I'd be hesitant to do it. I'm apt just to recommend that we require that developers add the "Zope.configure(filename)" line to their scripts as opposed to doing anything more magical. I'm sure there will be indignant wails about it, but c'est la vie. ;-) Note that FWIW, you can also do (on UNIX): zopectl run <scriptname> .. which will run a script with the name "app" set up as the root Zope application object. This might be the easiest way to run scripts which need to operate against Zope objects going forward. - C
