Hi, Launchpad started the beta tests for their mailing list offers. A while ago we discussed this option for future hosting of the mailing lists. The current implementation has the restriction that the mailing lists can not be hosted using custom domains (@zope.org). I was contacted by Barry as I'm a beta tester who is somewhat representing the Zope developers for the LP team to find out whether we're interested in starting to test their service. Any opinions? [Zope2.10+] zopectl run conflicts with Traversable

Hi, I (and some co-workers) encountered lately issues with traversal when running scripts using "zopectl run" from the command line. Backporting Zope3 bugfixes

It turns out that the bug had been fixed last summer, but only on the 3.4 branch and trunk for Zope3. I therefore cut a standalone zope.security 3.3 branch (and 3.3.3 tag) for use in the Zope2 tree checkout. I would like to raise awareness that "important" bugfixes for Zope3 components may need to get more love than we have been giving them: in particular, we may need to be prepared to backport performance-, stability-, or security-critical fixes back to earlier versions than those which are currently under active development: the set of dependents is going to be increasing, and increasingly long-lived. As we move to finer-grained egg releases, keeping up with these backports should be simpler: only the package requiring the backport should need to be re-released. Changing the system user's title

I have some automated tasks that invoke code that expects a principle to exist in the interaction, so I'd like to use the "system user" (principle ID zope.security.management.system_user, defined in zope.security) to perform them, but its current title of "Special System User that typically has all permissions" isn't exactly something I want to show end-users. I'd like to change it to something like "System User". I /think/ this change shouldn't affect people much because until recently this principle couldn't be looked up by it's ID (a recent fix to zope.app.security made it possible). If this proposal meets with support (or is totally ignored <wink>), I'll make a bug fix release of zope.security with this change. -- Benji York Senior Software Engineer Zope Corporation

zope.mimetype dependency on zope.publisher

All - looking for a bit of input on a dependency for zope.mimetype (zope.publisher) not advertised in setup.py for that package: zope.mimetype.typegetter imports zope.publisher.contenttype for two functions (parse() and parseOrdered()). I'm assuming this dependency is more historical than anything else, but I'm guessing out of ignorance. I'm working on a minimal-dependencies CA application (using zope.schema and zope.component only) that could likely use zope.mimetype in a context outside of a full zope 3 web publishing environment, and I was curious if this particular dependency is purposeful/desired? Sessions, ConflictError and emails

Hi, I have a site which is based on Zope and Plone, where users can shop around (shopping cart is stored in SESSION objects) and a separate part of the site (backend, Plone) where newsletters and such can be sent out. I have a problem however with duplicate emails being sent out to the subscribers, and this is most likely due to conflict errors being raised.. The event.log file says: 2008-02-18T21:05:23 INFO ZPublisher.Conflict ConflictError at /VirtualHostBase/http/www.site:80/VirtualHostRoot/levanger/plone/site_newsletter/nyhetsbrev-130208/testSendToMe: database conflict error (oid 0x92aa, class BTrees._OOBTree.OOBTree, serial this txn started with 0x0373d8eef99cf5bb 2008-02-18 21:02:58.503076, serial currently committed 0x0373d8f1624479aa 2008-02-18 21:05:23.031441) (58 conflicts (0 unresolved) since startup at Thu Jan 24 17:34:08 2008) Now, those errors aren't a big deal in themselves, but it is a problem when the system sends out duplicate mail messages to lots of visitors. I've seen some blurbs about deferring sending emails until the transaction has been completed, and I just discovered zope.sendmail which is said to defer sending emails until the transaction has succeeded. Is zope.sendmail a good choice? Will it work with Zope 2.9.8? Thanks, Morten
