Replaceable Property question

I've stuck this in the Proposals Wiki as well so feel free to comment here or there :-) Will there be any access to the method/object that is being overridden from inside the one overriding it? Something like: 'self.__class__.my_method("blah")' ...but also accessible from DTML? Also, will folders have replaceableness for their contents? (so you could, for example, have a root index_html which could not be over-ridden lower down? cheers, Chris

It will bite you if you pack to a given time and then subsequently pack to an earlier time, as in your example. Steve, It sounds a little underpowered to me. But you should probably just try it if it's what you've got. There are some Zope benchmarks contributed by BwanaZulia at http://www.zope.org/Members/BwanaZulia/zope_benchmarks/benchmarks.html. We've had customers index well over 50,000 objects; you just have to understand the resource constraints and work with them, for example, don't mass index, use storages that scale to high write environments, etc. > Thanks in advance for your assistance. Server Side Trojan Issue really dead?

Hi, This comes from a chat on #zope and some worries I've had since the server side issue was raised. Unless I'm mistaken, the new security model doesn't solve the issue because ownership isn't changed by editing. Lets take the example of a ZWiki page which executes any DTML in its contents when it is rendered. Jim in a Manager Paul is a Manager DrEvil has the ability to edit ZWiki Pages, but not call the DEE (Delete Everything, Everywhere ;-) Method So, Jim comes along an creates a ZWiki Page describing the new security model. DrEvil comes along, edits the page and plants a <dtml-call "DEE(backup='no')"> in the page. He can't view this page since, as I understand it, code is executed with the lower of the owner and the viewer's permissions. Paul comes along to read the new ZWiki page, and IIUC, inadvertently executes DEE and deletes everything, everywhere, because he is a manager, and Jim (still the owner) is a manager and so DEE executes. dual processors??

Hi I'm looking at running Linux RH 6.1 and zope on a dual processor P90 Dell powerEdge server, 128Mb RAM. Is this a viable proposition for hosting, I'm not anticipating millions of hits?? I realise it's not the fastest thing in town but for a good price it gives me a RAID drive for reliability. Does Zope take advantage of the Dual processors? What sort of load will it handle, hits etc? What improvement is there over one processor? This box can be upgraded to P166's what would be the improvement? Is anyone out there running Linux on Dell EX590-2, can I expect lots of problems or easy to set-up? Pointers to sites with more information would be appreciated. I haven't got it yet, so want to find out more before I waste to much time/energy/money on it. Thanks for any help/advice you can offer. Steve.

ANNOUNCE: Xron spins off from ZScheduler

The copyright to ZScheduler belongs to my former employer, who, as far as I know do not plan continued development. I have created a derivitive product, Xron, in accord with the GPL licence of ZScheduler, and my future development effort will go into Xron. The copyright for the changes to ZScheduler which are implemented in Xron will belong to me (tho I really can't see any advantage to owning copyright for an open source product). "Xron" is pronouced as you would pronounce the "chron" in "chronometer" or the "cron" in Unix. The first version of Xron is alpha release 0.0.8 as it is derived from ZScheduler version 0.0.7. The following is from the CHANGES.txt document: Xron Version 0.0.8 Date: 2000/07/28 1. Derived Xron product from ZScheduler product Version 0.0.7 in accord with license. 2. Changed the Trigger tab method so it won't deadlock when Zope is in single thread mode. 3. Changed several names to improve consistency and comprehensibility. The most significant API change is that the class for Sheduled Event is now 'XronDTMLMethod', its add method 'manage_addXronDTMLMethod', and its meta-type 'Xron DTML Method' This change anticipates the possibility of implementing other kinds of scheduled methods (Xron Python Method, for example). 4. Added 'meta_type' to the Schedule catalog. Derived classes which have their own meta-type will be identifiable in the Schedule listing. You will have to delete your old catalog, so that Xron can create a new one. 5. Simpified the manage_catalogView for the Schedule. 6. Encapsulated the remote procedure call interface, so that you can conveniently replace it. The existing RPC interface is Client.py, which uses the HTTP protocol. You may want to provide a different RPC interface that uses, for example, the HTTPS protocol. Upgrading from ZScheduler: No automatic upgrade path has been provided. Before installing Xron, you should delete any subclasses based on ZEvent (though you may want to save any significant text for pasting into new Xron methods), delete the Schedule object, then delete the ZScheduler product. You may have to change some identifiers to their Xron synonyms. Then delete the ZEvents. Known Problems: 1. For Zope version 2.2.0 you will have to patch Client.py. Hi. I was fiddling around with my Zope-instance, and decided to Pack the database, I had just deleted a lot of objects and the Data.fs was reported to be about 15MB large; which I knew couldn't be true. Under Control_Panel/Database I pressed the "Pack" button with "days older than" set to '0'. Ahh, the Data.fs became about 500k, that's more like it. For some odd reason, I decided to enter '3' at "days older than" and press "Pack". Dunno why. After I did that it got ugly. Now it reported that the Data.fs was about 400k. Hm, I thought, and checked the var/ directory. It was smaller... strange. I decided to check if the rest of my site was still ok, but it wasn't. When got into localhost/manage every object had their titles changed to 'L'. A bit odd. Very inconvinient. :) Hpmf, I thought while I cleverly scratched my head. I tried to enter one of these 'L'-ified objects, but now it didn't respond at all. I tried to kill the python process, but it had already died. To fix it I entered the var/ directory, renamed the Data.fs to df-old and renamed the Data.fs.old to Data.fs. Started the Zope-process and everything was fine. Anyone seen this before? It could maybe resemble the bug 1244 (<URL:http://www.zope.org:8080/Collector/1244>), but I don't think so. The strange thing is that it (Data.fs) got smaller when I defined "days older than" to be '3', _after_ having set it to '0'. Versions: Red Hat Linux 6.1 (2.2.12-20) Zope version 2.1.2

How-To: Use LoginManager with a SQL Database

Hi, i adapted the How To: Use GenericUserFolder with an SQL database from hippy ( http://www.zope.org/Members/hippy/GUF_SQL_crypt_1_2 ) to LoginManager and Generic User Source. I didn't define a User Source or Login Method, i simply copied my methods from the GUF instance (more or less). I've tested it only with a few users in a MySQL database.
