We're working on a product (Can't tell you what it is or does yet, you'll see when we're done) that is going to provide several methods that you will call inside of your DTML. The really simple thing for us to do would be to require you to call the methods and pass it arguments. Like this: ***WARNING: INTENSE HANDWAVING AHEAD***   Work with the results   You're so lucky!  Sorry, those are not the results you wanted.   Now the above example is fine, _but_ I thought that it might be more convinant to have the function do namespace lookups similar to the way that DTML works. In other words If I did not pass arg1 in the function would check for it in the DTML namespace, and maybe REUEST. So, how could I do this without having to pass _ and REQUEST into the function? Upper limit on DB size

Is there a reasonable guess as to how large I can build a database before I encounter serious performance degradation? Currently, I'm in need of a rather large persistent object that I might access somewhere in the vicinity of 60 times a second.

Fyi, reading the Gadfly documentation first is a really good idea. It contains information about what Gadfly is, what it supports, and how you create databases. What the Z Gadfly database adapter does when you open a connection in an empty directory, is execute the following code (from db.py): if not path.exists(path.join(dir,connection+".gfd")): db=gadfly.gadfly() db.startup(connection,dir) This will create a new database (the .gfd file). Z SQl Method (Newbie)

I have problems with Z SQL Method in Zope 2 which was installed in a unix(linux) machine. I need to know the following. Create a Z Gadfly Database Connection. I created a directory 'test' in Zope-2.0.0a1-src/var/gadfly and it appeared in the Data Source field. How can I access it thru SQL Method since it isn't a database at all (just a plain dir !!). Can I create a database or table via SQL Method? Do I need to link the data source with a gadfly database? If yes, how?? By default, there's a demo data source. How can I use it????? How do I know what are the tables in it anyway?? Thus, I can't use the SQL Method. I would appreciate very much if you can reply as soon as possible. I need to use SQL Method desperately now. int'l zope

hi! thanks a lot for all the feedback on my suggested ZIP (zope int'l project). from what i can see now there are two different needs: 1. contents depending on client's wishes (e.g. client requests interface in his native language). this requires heavy changes in the zope code to evaluate HTTP_ACCEPT_CHARSET/LANGUAGE etc. 2. contents depending on server: you could set a Language property on a folder and make its contents behave in e.g. a german way (DateTime object will be output in a german format, thousands will be separated by "." and decimals by "," and  will not output "$123" but "123,- DM" or something). the second suggestion seems to be a lot easier to implement and i guess this is where we should begin. my python-1.5.2 has a "locale" module compiled in and therefore a lot of information about date/currency formats can be handled with this module. i could set up a separate mailing list on our server but i still need a couple of people to discuss how to implement this language switch. cheers thilo

I have noticed some odd behavior when using the UserDb module for authentication on a sub folder. Lets say that my root folder is protected through the normal zope authentication, and I have a folder off of it called "spam" that is protected using the UserDb module with cookie authentication. The User tries to access the root folder and it pops up the normal netscape authorization window, and the user tried to authenticate, but does not have a valid account. The user then tries to access the "spam" folder which is using the UserDb module, it tries to authenticate the user using the standard netscape authentication, not the cookie authentication, and the user will be unable to authenticate, even with a correct user/password combination.
