creating a ZClass that won't show up in normal folder add list.

I'm trying to create a couple of objects - one's a container, the other an object that only makes sense inside one of the containers. How can I get it so that the sub-object isn't listed in the normal management interface 'add' list? I've tried: - not putting an entry in the 'add list entry' field of the factory -> end up with a blank entry in the menu - not what's intended. - not making a factory object -> can't create the subobjects, get an AttributeError for _setObject. anyone? On a related note, should I be able to make a single product, with multiple ZClasses and ZFactories inside it? Anything that will break? Anthony

Desperately needing help!!

Hi guys, I am running on Red Hat 5.2, using Python 1.52 and Zope 2.0.0 (Zap). I have basic questions that need to be answered quick. There are the following :- 1. I can't create a External Method even though I had followed the description. Can anyone give an example of how to do it? 2. I can't use the Z Gadfly connection and Z SQL Method as a result of the earlier. How did we create a data source anyway??!! Your help will be greatly apprecated. ANNOUNCE: Z Classes Tutorial Update

There's a new version of the Z Classes Tutorial available http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Reference/ZClasses It's now available in HTML and PDF flavors. (The HTML is pretty ugly, but it should be a lot better in the next version.) This version of the tutorial has been updated for Zope 2.0.0a2. The next revision of the tutorial will probably be as part of the forthcoming Zope Developers Guide. As always I'd love to hear your comments. -Amos P.S. Newbie questions

Questions from an utter newbie: I'm trying to work thru "A Technical Introduction to Object Publishing with Zope", specifically the Job Board example. I've created the .dtml and .py files, but don't know what to do with them, and this isn't explained in the doc. What do I have to do to publish them? Where do the files need to go? It only segfaults on Win32, not linux. It appears to be due to the fact that the self->size attribute of the IntSet Extension Class is not initalised when an instance is initalised. This can be verified by putting printf("Len: %i, Size: %i, Ptr: %p",self->len, self->size, self); at the top of the int_insert method (line ~200). This causes the (paraphased...) if ((self->size >= i) && (int_grow(self, data, l))) ... to short circuit and hence the uninitalised self->data is never allocated (in int_grow). Hence, in the int_modify call it segfaults by deref'ing data (*data = ikey) to a random location. IntSet appears to have cPersistence.c as its superclass (see Import statements in initInt) but I cannot find where the actual initalisation is done (cPersistence doesn't have one either!!??). Could those with much better knowledge of the Components directory of Zope2 and Extension Classes in general help me out? The source I am using is the win32 source patch for Zope 2.0.0a2 released yesterday. Contact me for the zip file or it may be @ Contrib on Zope. BUG: IntSet.c:229

Hi, I've found a bug in Zope2.a2. You can see it by running: import inSet intSet.intSet().insert(1) and zope.exe will segfault in intset.pyd or kernal32.dll. I have only tested it with my Zope2a2 win32 release. I've traced it through to: <zope-src>\Lib\Components\Btree\intset.c line 229 Which is: data=self->data+i; if(self->len > i) memmove(data+1,data,(self->len-i)*sizeof(INTSET_DATA_TYPE)); *data=ikey; <-- segfaults here exit(0); If you move Exit(0) to above *data=ikey; then it doesn't segfault. My guess is that the args to memmove are wrong but have tried all obvious ones including: * memmove(data+i, data...) * memmove(data, data+i...) and it still segfaults. Could someone check this and let me know if I am wrong or not. This pyd is preventing me from running SquishDot on win32. Python-Document proof of concept code

Hi there, Since I hear Python scripts inside the Zope system are in their Inception phase now, I thought I'd contribute with some ideas. What I'm thinking about is how to emulate the DTML experience in Python. DTML is nice in that it provides a fairly simple interface into the Zope database, but less nice because fancy things tend to become extremely cumbersome and complicated in DTML while they wouldn't be so horrible in Python. Current ways to use Python tend to be even more cumbersome for various reasons (external methods not editable from the web, products are often overkill), however. One other reason why Python might still remain overkill even when it's editable from the web is the interfacing with Zope. This proof of concept tries to emulate DTML's way to use the Zope database in Python code. This way people won't have to learn two different systems and run into trouble when switching back and forth from DTML and Python documents. The proof of concept code does *not* tie into any Zope system, it's just an attempt to demonstrate my idea of DTML-like constructs in Python. There are various caveats, such as the HTML that's produced currently being all rendered to one line. That can be solved by adding \n in places, but perhaps there's a nicer way still.
