Possible 'bad' with Client.py and urllib

Hi, Both urllib and Client.py can be used to get stuff from other sites via HTTP and do useful stuff with it, right? Well, I was doing this and I think I've found what could be a 'real bad problem'. It appears that both of the above block while getting stuff from the remote site. Worse than that, they don't only block their current thread, they seem to block _all_ the Zope threads. The reason I say that is I ended up in a situation where I was using Client.py to get something from the Zope server on which Client.py was running. Because of the above, it effectively blocked the whole Zope server until the Client.py bit timed out. Does any of this make any sense to anyone? Is there a thread-safe equivalent of Client.py and/or urllib.open? Kindof related, is there any way to set the HTTP timeout when getting stuff using either approach? cheers for any help, Chris

I wish I could do: from ZPublisher import Client return Client.call(url,username,password)[1] ...in a python script. Why would that be insecure? cheers, Chris

Hi zopistas, I've managed to build a product called ValueChecker which when installed hooks into the prosessing of form input. It's basic at this point, a mere proof-of-concept, but I can think of so many uses! Cheers. :-) -Morten

Steve, This release breaks access to the management screens of ZClasses stored on Racks. In Zpatterns-0.4.2a3, Specialist/item_id/manage returns the ZClass management screen. Hi, I'm wondering, is there somewhere a simple example on how to create a python product which behaves like the following ZClasses : A simple zclass which contains some data (this is easy with the existing examples) A folder-like zclass which only allows to contain the simple zclass. (easy?) A folder-like zclass which allows to contain the 2 above classes (probably easy if I've an example of the 2de class) Thanks in advance, Tom.

Interfaces Wiki & Security Stuff

Hi, How active/relevant is the interfaces wiki at: http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/Projects/Interfaces I'm trying to figure out how RoleManagers, local roles, etc work and where the work of Zope Security is actually done. I've found ZopeSecurityPolicy.py and bits of stuff in Roles.py, and a few lines in BaseRequest.py, but the picture is still kinda flakey :-S It looks like there was quite a lot of discussion on the Wiki about all this, but I'm not sure how old it is and whether anything happened from it :-( Also, the new Wiki History thing doesn't seem very meaningful/helpful to me. Apart from the occasional 'No Data Returned' and Zope error page, the list returned doesn't seem to have any changes in it. What am I doign wrong? So, where should I be looking to find out how RoleManager, Local Roles & Proxy Role work from a Python product developers point of view (in Zope 2.3) and what changes are in the pipeline? cheers, Chris

LoginManager error

Hi, I am using Zope 2.3.0 with ZPatterns 0.4.3b2 and LoginManager 0.8.8b1. Zope newbie question

Within my dtml, I am retrieving a text field from a database and passing this field to a javascript function. However, the text field can be any length of characters and dtml keeps cutting the text off at no pre-set limit making it impossible to pass this field to javascript. The javascript is going to take this text and pop it up in another window for the user to read. I checked the html source and everything looks fine, but when I execute it gives an "unterminated string" error. Could Zope be causing this? Bryan
