Yo, in case of an exception, the following headers, can produce non compliant HTTP response headers. Bobo-Exception-File Bobo-Exception-Type Bobo-Exception-Value Especially the Bobo-Exception-Value header, which is a chopped off version of the body of the response, is a cause of problems. fe -------------- included example ----------------- Bobo-Exception-Value: <?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE wml PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD WML 1.1//EN" "http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/wml_1.1.xml"> <wml> <card> <p -------------- /included example ---------------- Normally, your browser doesn't barf on this, but browsers on small devices (like mobile phones) and their gateways are way more picky :( I have more than one problem with these headers: 1) most important: unpredictability of the RFC compliance. not a good thing. 2) security related: they give out way to much information to be confortable with. a client doesn't have any business with the absolute path to your zope install (Bobo-exception-File) and you even get these even when not running with the -D option. Although not enough info to hack/crack/whatever the machine/server it gives a hacker something concrete to work with. 3) usefulness: what do you gain from having these headers anyway? you have the error log on server side that contains the same information in another form. Is there still anybody out there who uses this ? if not, it's better to throw the whole thing out of the codebase, no ? Romain.

RFC: RelationAware class for relations between objects

There has been a lot of discussion about the need for a service that manages relations between objects on zope3-dev lately and in the past. I thought this would be a good time to share some code we have written to make relations a bit easier in Zope 2 and to invite some comments on it. The attached module provides a mixin class that collaborates with Max M's mxmRelations product almost like CatalogAwareness collaborates with the ZCatalog. I really hope that this can be an acceptable interim solution until relations are better managed by the ZODB or by some service in Zope 3. One area of contention is the overriding of __of__ to compute relations as attributes on objects. What kind of performance hit will this cause if one has a long chain of relations? Create top-level folder

Part of my product's job is to create a top-level folder. I can have it do that only when, from the management interface's "add function", I add it to the root directory. I would like it to always be able to go to the root directory, regardless of where its added. In order to do this, I need to access the root directory object, but I don't know how. What function can I call to return the root directory object? Most browsers try to show content as fast as possible. There are even CSS-standards for making it possible to predict a tables layout ahead to be able to render it as fast as possible (before it is completely loaded). The main reason of this I guess is because people usually start reading the top of the page and showing it make it appear to load faster for the visitor. Hence, your browser/site appears faster. My tests shows that both Moz and IE shows content sent so far even if the session has not finished or the file is completely transmitted. (I got the feeling that this was the intended behavior in the original question (?)) Also interfaced gif images are shown as soon as possible, I guess movie clips and flash movies also behave that way. This could be useful for other stuff as well (except streaming large object, which should never be saved in the ZODB by the way, be cause it bloats the memory when the object is loaded. It should be stream from a file, and not by reading the entire file as most file system object product I reviewed does including LocalFS which I have made a patch for). One use would be sending response in a long-time execution of a pack or other maintenance activities. It's a great thing to see how the process get along and that it's not halted. In such a process you can't predict the Content-Length, because you don't know ahead what messages the might pop-up. So the question is what happens if the Content-Length is excluded. In my test with text/html content nothing happens and it works fine. Other content types may behave differently depending on the client. ZCTextIndex and ZCatalog conundrum

Hi, Say I have a ZCatalog with a ZCTextIndex called 'SearchableText' and a DateIndex called dateofpublication. I do a search like: results = MyCatalog(SearchableText = search_expression, dateofpublication = search_expression2) How would I get those results sorted by the relevence returned by the ZCTextIndex? cheers, Chris

My observations from a digital-media management perspective lead me to believe that relationships and other metadata are closely intertwined, and that there needs to be a way to righcly express metatdata about relationships. One the subject of simplicity vs. features - it should be said that one thing that high-level applications would likely need to bolt on top of these relationships is metadata about those relationships. In the keep-it-simple model the descriptor names (Python identifiers, ie self.developers referencing a relation object) serve as an id for one half of the relationship, but how does one attach to following to that half of the relationship: - relationship type/model (same as DCMES relation qualifiers) - relationship label/plain-text-title - content type or class of related object - id/reference or path to content - potentially some other data? RE: Curious Problem

I've spent most of the day recreating the setup from scratch, just to rule out a python problem. I built python 2.1.3 from source, then used that python (renamed python2.1.3) to build zope from src. I can still run from the command line, but not from zope; same error as before. One thing I tried was to move the class definition inside the function definition (how could zope miss it? ;) ) but still no joy. I just don't understand why zope even needs to see the class. The function reads a record from an rdbms, unpickles and uses a few object properties to build a string. Something in zope itself seems to be preventing this. Any other thoughts?

Meaning of sequence-index-{variable}

I'm writing a Zope Quick Reference covering DTML and ZPT, and I am stuck trying to figure out the meaning and use of this variable, one of the many available inside a dtml-in loop. All editions of the Zope Book (and every other Zope book I know about) pretty much say the same thing: sequence-index-{variable}: The index of a variable of the current item. You are supposed to replace {variable} with some attribute of your current item. I've tried that with no success (although I've managed to test every other documented sequence-* variable). You can check the official docs here (but they haven't helped me): http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/ AppendixA.stx Reading the source seemed non-trivial in this case, so I decided to ask after a while (the only relevant module in Zope 2.6.1 seems to be DocumentTemplate/DT_InSV.py). bug: fmt=structured-txt and unicode

Hi, when combining localizer and structured text, I found the following quirk (Zope 2.6.1): Rendering an unicode string with <dtml-var unicodestring fmt=structured-text> gives an attribute error with meta_type in Module DocumentTemplate.DT_Var, line 407, in structured_text. A quick glance to the source show the following lines to be the cuplrit: if isinstance(v,StringType): txt = v elif aq_base(v).meta_type in ['DTML Document','DTML Method']: txt = aq_base(v).read_raw() else: txt = str(v) Obviously, this fails. Workaround: Use <dtml-var "_.str(unicodestring)" fmt=structured-txt">, works at least for me, though I don't have real exotic unicode strings. Should I stick it in the collector?
