Curious Problem

Hi, I have a python external method which reads from an external database, unpickles a class object, and concatenates some of the object's properties into a string which is returned by the external method. The class definition is included in the module. When I run it from the linux prompt in the Extensions directory it behaves exactly as it should. The class is successfully unpickled, the properties are read and the string is returned. However, when I set it up as an external method and call it I get the infamous: Error Type: SystemError Error Value: Failed to import class MyObject from module __main__ >From my perspective Zope should be 'blissfully unaware' of the existence of the class or the instantiation of the object. Since the object is only accessed in the external method, the module contains the class definition, and only a string is returned, why is this happening? What am I missing here? Cookie Crumbler ignores HTTP HEAD?

I see in the code for CookieCrumbler.modifyRequest() that it disables cookies if the HTTP method is not GET, PUT, or POST. Specifically this means that it won't accepct cookie auth for HEAD requests. This is causing problems on my site for users with some browsers. Apparently some browsers (recent Mozillas, maybe others) send a HEAD request when the user right-clicks a link and selects "Save link target as" (presumably to gather information before starting the download). So any links that are restricted to authenticated users have the strange behavior that users can left-click and view the file directly, but if they right-click instead they get the Zope Basic auth dialog. Not at all the desired behavior :) Is there a particular reason why HEAD was omitted from the list in modifyRequest()? Could it be added in? Or spambayes, which plugs in nicely to MS outlook. That said, if email addresses are obscured somehow in the list archives, we all will likely get less spam in our mailboxes in the first place. how to copy file from zope's folder to server's directory

hello~ At first,I upload a file(abc.prn) to my zope site. And then,I want to copy the file(abc.prn) form zope to server, but I don't know how to do. Form action has no effect

I had a Zope product that was working OK about a year ago. Now it's not. It seems the form action is not having any effect when I click on the button in the interface. As far as I can tell, the action is never called. I have tried this with Zope 2.4.3, which I think is the same version I ran before, and a fresh install of 2.6.1. One reason for the install was that I moved the entire application directory to a new drive in between, and I thought this might have caused some problems (I manually edited the paths I found). I also extended the app, but not in a way having any connection with the display of the form or action on it that I can see. I'm under MS Win 2k. When I type method calls directly into the browser (Mozilla) I call into the method or get a traceback if the name isn't recognized. But when I hit the action button on the form, I get no change at all except sometimes the URL gets the function arguments, e.g., http://localhost:8080/DSA/DSASync/DSASync/index_html?ignoreBlanks=ignore+bl… where the part from the ? on is new. (Not all tests have the DSASync/DSASync stutter). The dtml form is, in the relevant part: <form action="doddddCompare" method="POST"> <label>Ignore Empty Fields? <input type="checkbox" name="ignoreBlanks" value="ignore blanks" checked> </label><BR> <label>Keys <input type="text" name="key1" value="DSAID"> <input type="text" name="key2"> </label><BR> <input type="SUBMIT" value="compute differences"> </form> When I hit the form's button, I get no traceback that dodddCompare isn't found, and when I enter the real name (doCompare) I do not end up in the relevant method. I have verified that altering other text effects the form, so I am editing the right file and it is being picked up. The other odd thing is that I'm doing this as the root user created at Zope system creation. I thought such users could only create other users, but I'm able to create my object too. I've tried creating another user, but haven't been able to get past permission problems with it. What do we want in the way of Zope binary distributions?

Hi, With the new Zope 2.7 install and configuration stuff (currently on the Zope trunk), ZC needs to redo its mechanisms for Zope binary distribution. Currently, ZC distributes binaries for Win32, Linux, and Solaris on Zope.org. The Linux and Solaris distributions are in the form of a tarball containing binaries. The Win32 distribution contains an executable installer generated by WISE. I'd like to propose that ZC drops the "generic" Linux binary distribution in favor of an RPM distribution that would be "guaranteed" to run on the latest Red Hat release or the one before it, but might also work on Mandrake, etc. It's getting a bit scary to try to distribute a "generic" Linux binary release (who knows what's different about each?), and we really don't have the resources to do a functional test of the binary release on every Linux platform. Additionally, most Linux distributions typically come with all the required tools to compile Zope from source, and compiling Zope from source is now a matter of 'configure; make; make install'. If people don't want to do this, they can install the RPM or their distribution's repackaging of Zope (ala Debian). I also propose we drop the Solaris binary distribution in favor of providing instructions to Solaris folks about how to compile and install the source package. This might be the most contentious proposal: I really have no idea how many people use the Solaris binary distro. The Win32 binary release should likely stay much like it is. I'm not sure about the "upgrade" release packages. Does anybody use these? Comments? - C
