manage_top_frame

I am trying to find a way to override the functionality of the top frame when inside a specific product. Can someone please steer me in the right direction as to how I can get my product to see the customized top frame instead of the default? I have the new top frame in my dtml folder. please publish new edition of Zope Book often

Hello: I use the on-line version of The Zope Book all the time as a reference and guidebook. However, sometimes its just more convenient to have docs in paper book form. In fact, even though The Zope Book is way out of date, ( and any newer version would become out of date very quickly ), I still recommend it to clients over any of the other books covering Zope. I, for one, would love to see a new edition of The Zope Book published out on a regular basis, say once a year or thereabouts. We have had to deal with many complaints about the out-of-date-ness of The Zope Book from our customers. For example, we have just recently won a large contract using Zope technology for which this is an issue. So, how about it? I personally feel this is a very important step on the "10x growth" road. 2c, --Craeg

urgent: string exceptions

Hi. I'm stuck with trying to catch a string exception from the zope core within a python script of cmf. When using invokeFactory one can expect it to raise a "Bad Request" (string) exception e.g. when you want to create an object with a duplicate id. Within a python script I tried: try: ... invokeFactory ... except "Bad Request", v: ... but that doesn't catch the exception. Using an anonymous except: clause is not an acceptable way because a) they are evil b) i can't get to the exception value anymore. I need to solve a problem related to that soon. I now have some things I can imagine to do: a) Remove "Bad Request" beeing a String exception and make it a class exception b) Get a hint on how to actually catch the string exception within a python script and get to the exception value c) (Not good but if it works) Catch it anonymously *and* get to the exception value. building Zope from CVS on Windows

Hello, I went to http://cvs.zope.org/Zope/ and downloaded a tarball via the link at bottom of page, and proceeded to attempt a build (python setup.py install) on a Windows XP Home system having Python 2.2.2 and VC98. When it got to the build_ext stage, it failed with the following traceback. self.build_temp is None at that point. I tried setting --build-base, but it didn't help. ZODB bug fix plans

I've gone through the CVS logs to look for bug fixes that ought to be applied to the ZODB 3.1 and Zope 2.6 release branches. There have been a fairly large number of bug fixes since The 3.1.1/2.6.1 release. The most important change is probably the atomic invalidation patches. This should address problems we've seen in the field with corrupted BTrees. The problem is caused by invalidations from one transaction being partially applied in another database connection. I'm including a big long list of checkins that I plan to backport. I may discard a few backports as I review the patches more carefully. If there's anything that sounds dodgy to you, please let me know. Method available from Python scripts only

Hi, I'm facing a problem, and perhaps I haven't got enough security enlightenment to close it. I made a Foo class with a *public* "bar" method (security.declarePublic("bar")) But I want this method to be available only from python scripts or expressions in DTML/TAL (with no proxy rule), but forbidden through URLs. To be clearer, if myfoo is a Foo object : * myfoo.bar() is granted to anonymous users * http://mysite.com/.../myfoo/bar is restricted Any hint to do this ? Thanks in advance --Gilles

__getattr__ revisited

Hi, I just read an old thread about overriding __getattr__ without breaking acquisition. Using Implicit.inheritedAttributes('__getattr__') didn't work, and I'm not sure if using Implicit.__class__.__getattr__ even gives me the correct __getattr__? Anyway I found a way around this using __dict__ explicitly. In the __of__ wrapper I save the parent: self.__dict__['_v_parent']=parent and in the end of __getattr__ I put if self.__dict__.has_key('_v_parent'): return getattr(self.__dict__['_v_parent'], name) It seams to work, but I just want to check for any problems with this approach. linux 2.5 threading issue

Hi all, A heads-up for anyone using Red Hat. I just upgraded my desktop to Red Hat 9, which includes a backport of the Native POSIX Thread Library (NPTL) from 2.5. Unfortunately this appears to break (my) Zope (application). The symptom is a seemingly random blocking on a FUTEX_WAIT. I don't have time right now to find the cause; a workaround is to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 in the environment. http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/release-notes/x86/ seb

Well we haven't dumped solaris ;-) But we always build Unix/Linux from source. Win32 binaries are required though.
