I've been poking thru the archives of this list and there was a brief thread regarding a Zope IDE back in January. I wondered if there has been any futher discussion/development in this area. Recently I put together simple a way to edit DTML src via the Medusa FTP, mainly because I've had it trying to edit src in Netscape. I've been poking around looking into XML-RPC as a way to do management without having that *&^%@$#^$ browser in the way and wondered if anything was happening in that dept, or if anyone was interested to have anything happen in that dept. BTW, I have checked out the Mozilla list too. Another browser isn't it? cheers jim

Client.py looses port? Bug?

I've found that absolute_url does not return the port number when the request was created by client.py. I may not have isolated the problem at the most detailed level, but here's one way to reproduce it. Missunderstanding of DTML Methods and acquisition?

I have the following problem: There is a folder /img (containing Images). There should be a DTML-Method IManager (for managing the Images) in the folder /. There is a DTML-Document index_html somewhere in the hierachy (let's say /user/regions) If I call the following line from /user/regions/index_html: <dtml-var "img.objectIds(['Image'])"> everything is OK. (I get a list of all images) If I call the following line from /user/regions/index_html: <dtml-var "IManager()"> and IMangaer has the folling line: <dtml-var "img.objectIds(['Image'])"> there is this error message: Error Type: NameError Error Value: img Why can't I call img.objectIds(...) from the DTML-Method? I also tried putting IManager to the img-folder, but the result was the same. Please help! Walter

Problem uploading large files

Hi. I thought I should send this to the Zope-dev-list, as there was little response to my mail on the main list. I have a peculiar problem: On our site, people should be able to upload big files (MP3s) that are stored outside the ZODB. This is done via an upload form and HTTP POST. We tested the upload forms, everything worked fine, until people started uploading via slow modems. At this point, I should explain our setup: We run ZServer at port 9090, and use Apache as a proxy to forward all requests to mp3.no:80 to login.mp3.no:9090. We also use SiteAccess in combination with this. So, the problem is: When uploading large files, ie. files that exceed 30 minutes or so of upload time, things stop working. It isn't file size, it is only dependant on the time used. We've tested with, and eliminated the following possible unknown variables: 1. Different modems (from 14.4Kbps to 56Kbps) 2. Different providers 3. Different browsers - Netscape, IE 4. Different ports (upload via both mp3.no:80 and login.mp3.no:9090 directly have been attempted) 5. Different locations (upload to the ZODB and the external python method have been attempted) 6. Raising the timeout values of the Apache server have been attempted So, I'm quite puzzled. Is there a timeout value in ZServer/Medusa that can be tweaked? Or is it possible that the error lies elsewhere? An example error message is: -- Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request POST /artists/boj/prox/add_mp3. Reason: Error reading from remote server -- The Apache logs show: [Mon Mar 6 14:07:39 2000] [error] [client 129.177.138.178] (54)Connection reset by peer: ap_bgets() - proxy receive - Error reading from remote server login.mp3.no (length -1) So, do you have any suggestions as to what I might try next? As mentioned, everything works fine if the connection is fast enough. Is there a timeout I can raise the value of? This is in a pretty critical phase of our development, we should have been "live" last Friday, so we're a bit pressed for time here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Send simple objects to server

Hi, I want to extend Zope to receive simple objects made by me, put them into a Berkley DB based database located at the server and process the data. Example : User scans a cd-rom locally, the created cd-rom-object is pickled, compressed using zlib and transferred to a zope-server, where a special part, the part I want to make, receives the object and creates indexes, reports etc. Later on the user can configure how the data shall be processed, indexes created etc. and search his or other peoples data thru zope, like searching yahoo. The problem is transferring objects to the server. I`ve looked at DOPY and PYRO, but Zope has more features etc. Any ideas or hints on what documents I should read in the Zope documentation, what source-files I should study to understand this etc. ???? The server must be able to process lots of concurrent users. Thomas

Need help iterating through a folder

Hi Gang, I am trying to display all the DTML Documents I have stored in a folder. Basically I want to have a NewsFolder which contains DTML Documents which have news items. I want to have a news page which steps through the NewsFolder and renders each news document stored in the folder. I can step through the folder and display the title of each news document with <dtml-var title>, what would I use to render the entire DTML document? Thanks in advance. First, I'll respect Patrick's statement to keep it on this list. However, if anybody wants to spread the word on the other list, that's fine too. It isn't just odd that a few XML messages came in at the same time. What's even more odd is that Mike and Uche (FourThought) were in our (Digital Creations) office today, working with us on integrating their XML with our Zope efforts! Serendipity, to be sure. The basic idea is that we are footing the bill for them to (a) look at getting XML Document up to 1.0, and (b) bringing their leadership to ZDOM. The latter hopefully means making 4DOM (plus some Zope-specific extensions) the replacement for ZDOM. Since 4DOM is likely to become Python DOM, this brings a ton of benefits, including some world-class talent. Note, though, what _isn't_ on the table right now: XPath and XSLT. If the "bounty" wants to get together and get that on the immediate radar, now's the time. Either fund DC or FourThought. Anybody that's interested, send me a private note and we'll get the pool going. Globally unique id's in Zope in a new way

Zopsters, I use the Catalog for quite a bit of jumping around the ZODB, and have a 30,000 plus objects in a system. I like the idea of not having to worry about id's conflicting with other numbers that might appear (invoice numbers, employee numbers, etc...) so I don't like to use a counter for ids. The ZopeTime() to int to string conversion works unless you are programatically creating multiple items in the same folder, and have a descent processor. I have derived the following bad hack from the code used to generate ZClass ids. Does anyone know off hand how many different combinations this offers? Is it considered unique? (I appologize if this arrives twice, this webmail interface is a little flaky.) Wow, three XML posts so close together. :) First, I'm sure DC wouldn't have any problems with outsiders working on core parts of Zope. Witness PythonMethods. Of course, it would have to be *good* code. That said, I'd be willing to do some contract work to get such a thing done. I wasn't going to post the URL to this for a while, but since it's germange to the discussion... http://www.zope.org/Members/otto/bluesky_xml. I started writing it about a week and a half ago, just cleaned it up a bit so it's worth putting out there. Not cataloged, or even requested to be, yet. The scope there is a little larger than just XSL.. personally, I don't think it's overkill, but someone may disagree with me. :) Comments and questions welcomed... though if you post to the list, please cc me. We ( myself and Damien Morton ) have been searching for a simple way of expressing selection and expansions of a tree-like data structure. It seems to me the best way to express these type of problems is with languages like XPath and XSLT. In addition, the development of a "zope data pointer" is remarkably similar to the problem that the drafters of the XLink specification are working out( in much larger numbers and levels of experience ). So... what I am implying is, as was touched upon before in a reply to one of my posts : is that if Zope were to be more tightly coupled to the XML specifiation, it would greatly increase Zope's user base and list of adaptable technologies. Zope is just not ready and willing to have XSL, XPath, and Xlink plugged right in. In order to use such non-proprietary technologies, custom logic must be applied to Zope: why should this be? Should Zope( being that it practically IS XML already ) be more *XML compliant*? In a nutshell- more XML friendly features built into the core of Zope is something I would like to see in future releases.
