The membeship system will allow you to assign arbitrary properties to member objects. Suggestion: Full name attribute for user objects

It would be very cool if user objects (that is to say User.BasicUser) could have a "fullname"-type attribute. This would also fit well in with other authentication schemes such as Windows NT, where users have a full name in addition to a login name. While I know I can name my users "John Doe" instead of "john" or "johnd", that's a pain for my users to enter in the login box -- think about those who have long names or middle initials. On the other hand, things like "john" isn't descriptive enough when we need a display name; for example, consider a simple document management system, where you define system users in an acl_user folder and tie the user name to documents' "owner" and "author" properties. In such cases display names would be very handy. Sure, I can create a TinyTable for looking up display names, but this isn't half as elegant or flexible. I don't think the addition of such an attribute would break any code, either. ZopeHTTPServer and authentication

Is there a consistent way to turn off basic authentication for objects being published with ZopeHTTPServer? Some of the Zope modules I'm using automatically kick in security support and I've turned it off in various objects, but can't find a way to turn it off for everything. Thanks Kent

The object hierarchy

I've been fiddling with zope for about a week now, and I'm just trying to figure out this little hole in the object hierarchy so that I can get relly working on my project. I'm not entirely sure what vocabulary to use yet, so please bear with me. I'm trying to navigate around the object hieararchy, and I can find a single object's subobjects by using hasattr and so on, but what if I want to navigate to a different position in the hieararchy? As far as I can tell, objects don't have a pointer to their parent, so I've got a couple of options - find the root (which is preferable), or stuff an arbitrary root into a global variable for later use. Ideally, I'd like the former course.

FreeBSD allready has it. sendfile is simply a system call that gets passed a file descriptor. All transmission of that file, from that point on, get's done by the kernel with only one buffer copy and no context switches between the kernel and the user process (instead of the usual logic of program->open call, (context switch), kernel->open file, (context switch), program->read file (buffer copy) program->write socket (buffer copy, context switch) kernel->send data, (context switch back to program) repeat). cdrom.com has a FreeBSD machine that they FTP serve with, they patched their FTP server to use sendfile and removed something like 20-30% of their FTP overhead. I use something like TEST=HTMLFile("sdb_button", globals()) which uses a standard_html_header DTML doc in my new 'Testing' Folder: it works, after being supplied with all its wanted parameters: http://......./Testing/Instance1/TEST?method=POST&action=XXX&value=YYY gives me the results I want (plus a steel blue background from the Header file); calling the 'document' from within my product code still breaks. Dont import from BoboPOS

Greetings, A word of warning, don't import thing from BoboPOS, they won't work with ZODB3. So, instead of: from BoboPOS import PersistentMapping do from Persistence import PersistentMapping do this also for Persistent from Persistence import Persistent I think this is what is effecting Tiny Tables, because Tiny Tables does a 'from BoboPOS.PersistentMapping import PersistentMapping'. -Michel
