I know it probably is on the archives, but I didn't find it. Is there a good reason why I can't use map, filter and lambda in DTML code? (They're not in the namespace.) Problems subclassing DTMLDocument and DTMLMethod

I've decided to rewrite ZCache in an OO way, so I rewrote it and called it GenericCache. First thing I'm trying to make are cached DTMLDocument and DTMLMethod. GenericCache provides a Cache class that wraps all access to the object, and if the cache expires Cache reloads its data. How it reloads is determined by overloadng a _getData method in subclasses. So in a subclass of Cache and DTMLMethod _getData would call DTMLMethod.__call__, i.e. te cache would contain the rendered DTML. I subclass Cached DTMLDocument from Cache and DTMLDocument, Cached Method from Cache and DTMLMethod. I have two major problems: 1. The DTML only renders if I put all of it inside a <dtml-with "PARENTS[0]"></dtml-with>, otherwise it doesn't seem to acquire anything. Cache inherits from Acquisition.Implict and of course so does DTMLMethod - so why isn't acquisition working? 2. The Cached DTMLMethod behaves just like a DTMLDocument - possibley because of the above problem and/or my temporary solution. That is, it doesn't act as a method of the enclosing folder but as standalone object. I still don't know for sure, as I don't have the time to investigate, but I think there are some problems with the security interface, making security too tight. It just doesn't work as expected. Try this: Create your Role and user in the top-level acl_users folder. That is not really possible, as a transaction can comprise much more than creating or changeing one object. I can add, delete, and change several objects at once. In fact, even just adding an object, changes the container it is added to. And then, if the object is CatalogAware, the catalog gets updated as well. Transactions

getattr in a PythonMethod

I'm running Zope 2.1.4 and PythonMethod 0.1.7, and I'm running into an AttributeError for "validate" when I do: dtml = getattr(self, 'popular.html') I don't know of another way to get at "popular.html" from python. This line is definitely the issue though... The method is called with self, REQUEST as parameters. Any ideas? Kevin

Keyword Indexs and 'AND' searching

Zopsters, I asked this before, but Iwas hoping Michel would speak to this. Is there a way to use 'AND' with keyword indexes as with text indexes? If I pass ['foo', 'bar'] to the Catalog to search a keyword index I get back anything with 'foo' and anything with 'bar'. Text indexes and '+' '-'

Zopisters, Is there anyway to make the Text Indexing machinery eat a words that contain '+' and '-' Right now the index does not store those. Zope Debugging Tips Solicited

I'm trying to debug some Python extensions that I've made to Zope. I'm looking for tips on how to efficiently debug this code. I've searched the Zope.org site for information, but haven't found too much useful. In some cases I'm able to get by with writing using Zlogger, but there are times when using a debugger would be helpful. I've managed to use pdb, but the process is somewhat painful. I modify my code to import pdb and I put a pdb.set_trace() where I want to debug. I then start Zope and use my browser to get to a place where my code will run. When run, the debugger stops. I step through and then I get to a point where I just want to resume. I try using 'continue' but I find that I have to do that several times before the debug prompt goes away. I then find that I drop into the debugger at places other than where I've done a set_trace. My basic question is this, what sort of debugging techniques do you find useful? Is there something I should be doing that I'm not? I haven't really explored the monitor feature because I don't really understand what I can do with it.
