Folder Subclassing Problem

I'm trying to write an extension to Zope which enhances the functionality of Folder. I'm trying to create a new type of folder which limits the contents displayed to objects for which the currently authenticated user has management permission ('View management screens'). Unfortunately I'm seeing behavior which I don't fully understand. My implementation is fairly straightforward (or at least I think it is). I created a Product subdirectory to hold my enhancement. I created a .py file which contained my new folder class along with a method used to create a new instance of the class. Basically I took the Folder.py class and tweaked it. For example, I called my class a FilteringFolder and had it derive from Folder. I gave my folder it's own meta_type and I defined my own manage_main attribute. My manage_main is an HTMLFile which contains the DTML for displaying contents. It is virtually identical to the main.dtml found in OFS except that it uses a different method to get the contents. As the superuser, I created an instance of my folder. When I created the folder, I saw my add form and I've verified that the object created really is an instance of FilteringFolder. To test to see if my contents method was being called, I ran Zope in debugging mode and put a pdb.set_trace() command inside the method that I expect to be called. When I attempt to view the contents of the folder by clicking on it from the management interface I get Zope to halt where I expect it to. As a second test, I close and reopen my browser (to get rid of authentication information) and I access my folder with the following url: http://foo:8080/TestFilteringFolder/manage I get prompted for login and I again log in as the super user. Once again, the Zope halts where I expect it to. I then add a user to the acl_users folder contained in my FilteringFolder. I define a new role for this user and assign it to my new user. From the security tab, I let my new role have access to 'View management screens', but nothing else. I then close my browser and reopen it. I try to access the management interface to my folder using the URL given above. This time, instead of authenticating as the super user, I authenticate as my new user. Now, instead of zope halting, I get the default index_html screen for the folder. I don't see contents, and as far as I can tell, my manage_main is never invoked. I don't understand this. I'm sure this is some permission problem, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Can anyone help explain what might be happening and what I would need to correct to make this work? i18n of zope managed contents

hi *, we are starting to build two *big* (international) sites and we have the need to localize them from the start. i've looked up every product on the zope site and read the (only?) document about l10n available: the "Changing Contexts in Zope" text. i still don't see a clean and simple solution, so i am thinking about writing a product to help with localization. but i don't want to reinvent the wheel so here's what i am trying to do. (comments and pointers to documentation are welcome!) ** THE SIMPLIEST WAY ** create an L10N object able to render its contents accordingly to a global variable (e.g., a cookie.) you just set one property for every language (property name == language id) and you are done. i can also throw in some nice dtml to let the translators do their job inside zope in the properties tab, etc... the main problem here is exponential object growth. a complex page can easily need teens or hundreds of such objects. ** THE IMHO BEST WAY ** subclass the Folder object and add (i don't even know if that is possible, no documentation about it) a new kind of property, lets call it "L10NText." when the L10NFolder is asked for data, it returns the right translation, based on the same global variable as above. write some pretty complex dtml that lets you add L10NText, and, for every L10NText var, add translations. OK, I believe that this is fixed for real now in CVS. Product using ZCatalog example?

The simplest thing to do is to run Zope from the command line, passing the '-D' flag to tell it to run in debug mode (the default "start" script does this). The traceback from the failed product import will then dump to the console (I think). XMLDocument - Adding a child through zope

I'm interested in using zope to maintain an xml document. Has anyone been able to add a child to an element node simply using the DOM api? I image that this would be simple using something like the following code. new_node = self.getOwnerDocument().createElement('testTag') self.appendChild(new_node) However, I get the following error when I try it: Error Type: WrongDocumentException Error Value: The following line is at the bottom of the traceback. File C:\Program Files\jin\lib\python\Products\XMLDocument\Node.py, line 434, in appendChild (Object: Manageable) WrongDocumentException: (see above) Here's the crazy thing. Line 434 of Node.py is the following: document=newChild.getOwnerDocument() ownerDocument=self.getOwnerDocument() if document and ownerDocument and document != ownerDocument: raise ZDOM.WrongDocumentException() Clearly from the first snippet of code, you see that the ownerDocument of both the new_node and 'self' node are one and the same. Accessing objects inside a ZClass from and instance

Zopsters, Is there any way to access the objects inside a ZClass from an instance of that class using objectValues()? I'd like to get a list of usable methods that a user can access.
