Python objects and transactions

Is there an easy way for a python object to know when a web request has completed? For example, if I have an object that needs to do some setup and tidy up around operations, I want to group operations together if possible, but I don't want to delay the tidy up until the object is thrown out of the cache. I have tried using the mixin class Shared.DC.ZRDB.TM and defining _abort, _finish, but without much success. The first time I call _register the _finish method is called as I expected, but the transaction forces a commit, which writes the object to the ZODB with _registered set to 1 so that subsequent attempts to start a transaction fail. Better diagnostics during product load?

Often, when Zope tries to load my product, it logs the simple error message: 2000-02-21T23:51:57 ERROR(200) Zope Couldn't install MyProduct There is no traceback, not in the log and not in the product screen of the Control Panel. I presume the problem is syntax errors in the Python code of the product. How can I get Zope to show me a traceback pointing out the syntax errors? -- Thanks -- Loren

Old Products and the new HelpSys

Hi, I have a Zope installation running a recent cvs version. If i add a new Product i get automagically a "Help (ProductName Help)" Object. But in older Products i can't add this and therefore the Views tab (as defined in Zope/lib/python/ZClasses/views.dtml) produces a NameError for "Help". Is there a way to add this Help-Object to older Products? I tried editing initializeProduct in Zope/lib/python/App/Product.py and exporting and importing the Product. I added the following: if not ihasattr(product,'Help'): product._setObject('Help', ProductHelp('Help', '%s Help' % name)) similar to the __init__ method of the Product class, but that doesn't add it. Any Zope Trouble Ticket System ?

Hello, We are working on a trouble ticket system product for Zope, following loosely the RFC-1297. To avoid duplicate efforts, I looked for something equivalent, available or under development. OpenFlow and RoundUp seemed close matches, but they are not the right thing yet. Does anyone have something similar? Proposed solution for ZODB woes

Right now we have a provision for non-persistent variables (with _v_, which I assume is for ``volatile''). The obvious way to fix the incontrolable growth of ZODBs is creating a new prefix for ``non-undoable'' variables, perhaps _t_. Implementation-wise, these variables would be stored in a different area. For filesystem storage, the best implementation is probably using a second file for all _t_ stuff. (Actually, they can be kept in RAM and only synced to this file periodically). The other part is giving Zope objects a way to have _t_ and perhaps even _v_ properties. Using 'AND' and Keyword indexes

Zopists, Does anyone know the way to get AND functionality to work with Keyword indexes? If I pass the index ['foo', 'bar'], it brings up anything with 'foo', and anything with 'bar'. I;d like to get bak anything that has both 'foo' AND 'bar'. Anyone done this yet? -- Jason Spisak 444(a)hiretechs.com

Subclassing ExtensionClasses in C?

This question is not directly related to zope, but I was told on comp.lang.python that this would be a better place to ask. The question is about the ExtensionClass package that now seems to be maintained as part of zope. I guess the problem might be encountered by some people writing zope packages, so it is sort of zope related :) I am looking at converting my pygtk wrapper for GTK+ over to using ExtensionClass (because it will reduce the amount of code needed, and make it easier to autogenerate the wrapper, among other reasons). This would involve creating a fairly deep heirachy of classes defined in C. While looking through the ExtensionClass documentation, there were examples of creating ExtensionClasses and subclassing extension classes from python, but no examples of subclassing from C. Is this actually possible to do with ExtensionClass? I noticed it is possible to create a PyMethodChain for each class, which would allow inheritance of methods, but does not handle `instance of' type relationships, which I need to do some type checking. Zope Usage

Reading the source code of zope, I find out the current code contains many contstants: BGCOLOR lang CELLSPACING ALING I would like to suggest zope default to a stylesheet oriented setting with these constants defined as attributes in root folder. This will give the later developer greater flexibility to modify the zope management interface. The constant lang=en is however not very apropriate when developing multi-langual applications.
