[BUG+PATCH] for OFS/CopySupport.py Zope-2.3.3

ZPL and GPL licensing issues

Hi there, we @ thingamy are considering changing our license to a ZPL-ish one [1] to better serve our clients' needs. However, some of the (Zope) products we've developed may need to rely on GPL'ed code, or needs to be incorporated within it, and the 'obnoxious advertising clause' seemingly puts a stop to it.. The ZPL is listed as a license incompatible with the GPL, but it doesn't really say clearly what the reason is, as far as we can figure, it's because of the advertising clause. Anyways, I'm wondering if any of you have encountered the same issue developing Zope products and any solutions towards it. See my posts on this subject on zope(a)zope.org However I think a "shell" command could help, e.g. in ZShell dialog box you'd type something like: shell apt-get update shell apt-get upgrade This would do it, but you'll need to have an apt-get wrapper which would have to be setuid root, so this would be very dangerous. the best solution is of course to standardize on one file format, and tweak Distutils to do what we want, then adding "zope-apt-get" to ZShell (or why not directly to Zope) will be trivial. bye, Jerome Alet

what to return for a manage_edit method

I think I read someone had integrated the sample zwiki web(s) into the python product, removing the need for the import which causes great confusion. If you know anything about this, please get in touch. Thanks -Simon

Fishbowl not problem centered enough

Fishbowl is a great idea but it seems to be that its solution focused rather than problem focus. Perhaps if you had a page that listed all the problems with zope or problems that need to be solved that isn't as easy as it could be with zope. Problems could then be organized according to priority due to severity or strategy, or even voting via the comunity (ala Java bug parade developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/) Then under each problem could be listed the proposals that form solutions to the problem. Of course some solutions may solve many problems and therefore appear more than once. default roles in ac_permissions

Note: I'm still using Zope 2.2.5, which is why I'm forced to use __ac_permissions__ and not the new security code in 2.3.x. In the documentation I've found on how __ac_permissions__ works you are supposed to be able to set default roles for a permission in a 3rd tuple. I've tried various things and can never seem to get them to take effect. The acquired permissions always take precedence. The only thing I can think of to do is create a method that I can call to set them using the builtin methods (eg. manage_changePermissions). Has anyone had any sucess with default roles in the __ac_permissions__? If so how, if not what did you do to automatically set default roles for a product? ExtensionClass

Summary: Hi, I'm a newbie Zope developer. I'm trying to use a fairly simple class from the Python interpreter (see below). It's not working (specific error message listed below). I've traced the problem to ExtensionClass. I'm not sure that I'm correct about that and I'm really looking for any help you might offer. Transparent folders, CookieCrumbler, ZDebug

A new release of Transparent folders is ready. The only real difference is compatibility with Zope 2.3.3. http://www.zope.org/Members/hathawsh/TransparentFolders CookieCrumbler has been re-released independently of CMF. Thanks to living in the CMF for a while, the security hole has been fixed, it tries hard not to mess up WebDAV and FTP, the cookie setting is configurable with scripts, and default login and logout forms are now included. http://www.zope.org/Members/hathawsh/CookieCrumbler ZDebug is currently not compatible with Zope 2.4.x. I'll work on it soon. Shane
