Three new proposals in the fishbowl: Cookieless Zope, SMB support, and SOAP support

Hi! I've just created another three fishbowl proposals: - http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Proposals/CookielessZope This one is a "nice-to-have" but rather painsome clean-up issue. Zope still uses cookies quite extensively. This should be an option that can be switched off. - http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Proposals/SOAPSupport This one is obvious. There ws so much talkin recently about Zope actually being capable of SOAP already. Maybe SOAP support should finally be implemented in reality ... ;-) - http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Proposals/SMBSupport This one is a crazy idea. I have no clue whether an SMB server component for Zope would be hard to build. But it would be a very useful thing to have around ... Joachim

But even that theory being correct and now I know better how the RAM Cache Manager works, and even thinking of doing another cache manager, another point of my post is that something is not working: I'm testing this, caching a page that only creates one entry in the cache, because there is nothing different with that page to create multiple cache entries (Query_string vars, or other stuff), i.e, the "cache keys" of this page is always the same it doesnt receive any parameters to create a different entry. And taking this in mind even with a threshold of 0 (zero) the next_cleanup value is never tested in the code. Soo what I was not able to reproduce with the current RAM Cache Manager code is the "certain amount of time has passed" condition. Because of that there was my solution of returning "default" in the ZCache_get code which I agree with you it slows cache hits, but was the only way I got to put the interval_period to work. If you could be so kind and do a little test: -create a dtml method with only this line of code: <dtml-var ZopeTime> -create a Ram cache manager, define 0 (zero) for the threshold and 5 seconds for the cleanup interval, and associate your dtml method with this Ram Cache manager. -Then go to a browser and request several times the dtml method and you will see that the zopetime returned by the dtml method never changes, even after 5 seconds. Isnt this suppose to work? I mean, there is a threshold of 0 (zero) so when the 5 seconds pass the call to cleanup should cleanup this entry because there will be 1 entry and the threshold is 0 (zero). PAM authentication module for Zope

Hi! I am looking for a Zope user folder that connects to a Linux PAM (Pluggable Authentication Module) for authentication. Has anybody done such a thing yet? There is a "PyPAM" module (http://www.pangalactic.org/PyPAM/) so the task should not be too hard to accomplish. But I'd like to know first if anybody out there has running code already ... Joachim

Transparent Folders and Ram Cache Managers

Has anyone tried using a RAM cache manager in a folder with a Transparent Folder-based subfolder? bizarre __call__ problem

A strange one. In my product, which is a folderish content type, I have two functions with identical function bodies and signatures; the only difference is the function name. Hi all, Looking into lib.python.Products.standardCacheManagers.RAMCacheManager.py I found something it looks like a problem in the code and I came to a solution which solves the problem in subject althougt I dont know If this is a safe solution, It works for me. - In RAMCacheManager.RAMCache.ZCache_set() there is a set of the Cache Manager's next_cleanup variable. - With this var we can then test if its time to cleanup and if yes call the self.cleanup() method. But this test is never made in the RAMCacheManager code, except at calls to ZCache_set!?! - At the top of ZCache_set() there is this code: now = time.time() if self.next_cleanup <= now: self.cleanup() self.next_cleanup = now + self.cleanup_interval I think this code should also exist at the top of the method ZCache_get. I put it the following code at the top of the ZCache_set(): now = time.time() if self.next_cleanup <= now: self.next_cleanup = now + self.cleanup_interval return default I think the right thing to do here is to call self.cleanup instead of returning default but then again there is something strange in the cleanup method, because it only tests for the threshold limit and never tests the cleanup_interval constraint. I will change the cleanup method to my needs and call it where I'm doing the "return default". Anyone seen this problem / is working on this?
